Ok everyone, time for a little game inspired by #5thingsabout me which is currently doing the rounds on Instagram. Here is how it works:
A question is posted and anyone can answer it. Whoever answers the question first must then post another question and so on and so forth.
Questions can be whatever you want but the aim of the game is for all of us to get to know each other better. The questions don't have to be related to TSOM but let's face it...that's why we are all here isn't it?
Since I'm reasonably new on here, I thought this would be a good way to get to know you guys. I don't know if it has been done before and it may very well turn out to be an epic fail but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.
I will start with the first question:
Question: What is your favourite Sound of Music song?

Oooh Edelweiss would've been my song of choice as well! And I was in Cornwall last year, it was stunning! Really breath-taking sceneries.

It's Edelweiss for me too! I hardly ever go on vacation (although there are many places I'd like to visit) but my favourite spot would probably be Central Otago, NZ, anywhere near a lake. Pizza and Butter Chicken Curry are my favourite meals. I was going to say chocolate...but that's not really a meal My favourite author is Agatha Christie closely followed by Jane Austen. What is your favourite music genre?

Favourite music genre would be classical.
It is literally so hard for me to choose a second favourite movie. I'd have say it would be between The Parent Trap and Ever After (both childhood favs).

Favourite fiction is between Ordeal by Innocence and And Then There Were None, both Agatha Christie.
Favourite sport is netball, which I play. Also dance but that's more of an art than a sport.

Quite ironic, I also play netball and injured my knee playing just a few weeks ago! Not too seriously though, thanks goodness. Favourite Disney movies are Anastasia and Enchanted. My favourite colour is purple and favourite composers are Tchaikovsky and Strauss. Favourite artist (as in a 'drawing/painting artist) would be Leonardo da Vinci. Yikes, sorry about the injured knees guys! That's not fun. I've never heard of netball in my life, but I looked it up and it looks exciting!
Favorite disney movie? Way too hard to choose, but I can narrow it down to three lol: Lion King, Frozen, and Pocahontas
My favorite color is purple (haha, you guys should see my closet...it's literally only purple and black clothes)
My dream vacation destinations are New York City, Cologne, Germany, Vienna, or Salzburg. Ronda, Spain would be cool too. I have such a long travel wish list, it's not even funny.
Besides Julie and Chris, which famous person (or few people) would you most want to have dinner with?

Post by clarinetjamie on May 30, 2016 6:14:39 GMT
I would want to have dinner with a D-day veteran. I really can't think of anyone specific.
My favorite Disney Movie is probably Mary Poppins and I like some of the old Wonderful World of Disney movies like Johnny Tremaine as well as The Apple Dumpling Gang and Saving Mr. Banks.
Dream vacation would be to go to Europe, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. Also Washington D.C.
What is your favorite holiday? Mine is Christmas.

Does Julie's birthday count as a holiday? It is one of the most important days of my year and I always celebrate it. Other than that probably Easter (chocolate) Dream vacation: Salzburg (even though I have been there)
Favourite TV Show. Mine are The Big Bang Theory and Criminal Minds

I'd love to travel Europe but there are really only two major places on my vacation list...Salzburg and Graceland (Memphis, Tennessee).
Apart from those two, I really don't know who else I'd ask to dinner...I'd be fine with just them lol!
Christmas is definitely my favourite holiday! Love it!
My favourite TV show is Agatha Christie's Poirot (even though it doesn't air anymore). My guilty pleasure fav is Dance Moms...I love me some drama.
If you could choose a different time period to live in, what would it be?

Post by bloghey131313 on May 30, 2016 19:36:37 GMT
Yeah, I'd like to have dinner with Carol Burnett, Emma Watson, Audrey Hepburn if she was still alive, or Bob Wise if he was still alive because that man was brilliant (or Stephen Amell...if you don't know who he is go look him up because he is a beautiful person...)
I LOVE Christmas so much I can't even express it oh my goodness...maybe it's partly because that's when my entire family (extended and all) sit down and watch TSOM at least a couple times (: Plus Julie's Christmas albums = the best things ever. And I love snow.
I don't really have a favorite TV show at the moment but I was a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy (until Cristina left and Derek died)
I have no idea about the time period but I'm thinking 1920s (because it seemed like just lots of fun for the most part) and the 1950s/60s because I would have loved to have seen Julie on Broadway. Old Hollywood is great too. I don't know though, I'm pretty content with living now (as long as you don't get me started on US politics)
Do you have any interesting plans for the summer? I'm traveling to Boston!

Well it's winter down where I am, but it is also my birthday so I'm going to see the local orchestra's Rogers and Hammerstein concert. And later in the year I am seeing My Fair Lady (directed by Julie) TWICE! That's how I will celebrate my favourite holiday (see my above post) this year. Like bloghey131313 I would have love to have seen the 50s/60s because of Julie and the 20s also seemed like a lot of fun. I also would've liked to have seen the 1980s. Favourite musical (on the stage). Mine is Wicked.

Favourite TV Show? Downton Abbey. If you could choose a different time period to live in, what would it be? I would like to live for a while in 1930s Hollywood Do you have any interesting plans for the summer? We spend a week on Cape Cod and go camping with church friends every summer. We might hit up the American Folk Festival that comes to Bangor, ME every summer, too, though my menfolk are not really into it. Favourite musical (on the stage)? I haven't seen enough to really say. I wish I had seen Les Mis on stage... seeing TSOM on stage a few months ago was very memorable. Favorite dessert? Chocolate anything, really. If I had to pick a different time period to live in its would either be 1930s or somewhere in between the 1950s and 1960s. Unfortunately, my summer break won't be until the end of the year as I live in the Southern Hemisphere but my plans for the winter will be dance training and helping eve93 with her piano playing via online tutorials. So pumped for that! I haven't seen that many musicals on stage but I would have to say TSOM is right up there. Favourite desserts are chocolate mud cake and apple strudel. Last Google search was "Man for All Seasons movie"... I randomly found a copy of it at my house and wanted to know what it was! Question: What is your favourite line/quote from TSOM?

|
Post by gothicbutterfly95 on Jun 5, 2016 3:23:17 GMT
I was so young when I first saw it (I was 2) that I don't remember a clearly defined first impression. I know I LOVED the wedding so much that I would reenact it. I've talked about this on another thread but after my unexplained hiatus from this film (age 14) I really connected with and understood it for the first time.
I don't really have a favourite quote, but just because of how many times I say it, I'm going with 'Oh help'
Favourite of the children? Mine is Friedrich

What is your favourite line/quote from TSOM? Oh, Elsa's line about the harmonica always makes me laugh.
What was your first impression when you first saw TSOM and how it evolved after you watch it? My impression when I first saw tsom was that it was super romantic and Julie was pretty. It has evolved to a more complex story about the Captain learning that his heart can love again and how Maria doesn't just find her life in a man but in contributing to his healing and the courage they find to stay together.
Favourite of the children? Liesl
What is your favorite Elsa dress? (I know everyone is going to say the wedding gown if I ask for Maria's...) Ball gown.

Favourite TSOM line/quote: My all time fav line is the Captain's "You can't marry someone when you're in love with someone else, can you?" but that's not exactly something you can just go around quoting in everyday life....so my fav quote is "When the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window." I live by that one!
First impression...that's a hard one. I was quite young when I first saw it so I can't really recall my exact impression. I distinctly recall the Laendler and that very part at the end of it when Maria and the Captain are just staring into each other's eyes and camera goes sort of 'hazy'. It was a WOW moment for me and right then I knew there was something special about this movie even though I didn't really know what was going on...I think I was about 7 or 8 at the time. It wasn't until I was about 18 or 19 (I didn't watch it a lot during my early teen years) that I really began to appreciate and truly understand the film, it was like it was completely brand new to me and I haven't looked back since.
My favourite child is old what's his name...Kurt!
Favourite dress of Elsa's is the lilac purple dress she wears when Maria returns from the abbey.
My favourite season is Spring!
Question: What is your favourite Captain von Trapp suit/outfit?
|
|
|
Post by gothicbutterfly95 on Jun 6, 2016 4:33:22 GMT
Favourite Elsa dress - Red Balcony scene dress. Season- Summer Favourite Georg outfit - Ball/Laendler outfit
Okay favourite movie starring Julie or Chris besides TSOM. Mine is Darling Lili.

Post by climbingevrymountain on Jun 7, 2016 7:08:42 GMT
Favourite Captain outfit is seriously hard because there is not a single outfit he doesn't look good in. For me it would have to be a toss up between the ball outfit and the wedding outfit.
I'm ashamed to say that I haven't seen that many Julie/Chris movies besides TSOM but if I had to choose a couple of favs they would be Shrek 2 for Julie and Nicholas Nickleby for Chris.
Question: Which TSOM character can you most personally relate to?
