Well in another thread on the General Board it was mentioned that there was a TSOM reference in "Family Guy".... and just thought it could be fun to "collect" those references that we pick up when watching movies tv-shows etc etc..... We could broaden it out to include Julie and Chris movie references..... Okay I'll go first... Friends: The Pilot: Phoebe is singing "my favorite things" (trying to cheer up Rachel) well at least she is TRYING to sing it, as she mess up the words... but still funny Have one in The Big Bang theory... but can't remember what episode... but one of the last in season 7... (will get back to it if I see it again... )

There's an episode of "The Golden Girls" where Dorothy makes reference to "meeting up with Julie Andrews" and skipping through flowers or something. (I can't remember what the quote is!)
There is an episode of "Hot in Cleveland" where Wendie Malick's character, Victoria, makes reference to "Victor/Victoria" - "I'll be Victor-Victoria Chase!"
"The Big Bang Theory" reference is when characters Raj and Howard are talking about going to TSOM sing-a-long at the Hollywood Bowl.
"Will and Grace" had an episode, "Von Trapped", which dealt with all 4 main characters going to a movie sing-a-long.

IMDb has a 'connections' section, where many of these mentions are listed: link
One of my personal favorites was in The Simpsons--they're in the car, and Homer swerves to avoid an animal in the road, and shouts his usual "D'oh!" Lisa follows with "A deer!" Then Marge with "A female deer!" Awesome

On House in one of the very first episodes House was treating a nun and said something like "How do you solve a problem like (name of the disease, can't remember, sorry)"

Friends: The Pilot: Phoebe is singing "my favorite things" (trying to cheer up Rachel) well at least she is TRYING to sing it, as she mess up the words... but still funny I just watched this! The episode was on TV this morning and, yes, I watched it just for the SOM reference.

Watched BBT last night and it was the one where they are trying to come up with ideas for Howard and Bernadette's wedding. Howard said to Raj, "No, we are NOT going to recreate the wedding from The Sound of Music!" And Raj replies,"Yes, you've made that perfectly clear." My husband just looked at me and rolled his eyes. Heeee!

Does anyone remember the TV sitcom, "The Five Mrs. Buchanans"? I remember watching that show when there was a community theater group doing "The Sound of Music."

These are the ones I remember TV Big Bang Theory: Raj and Stuart talking about going to the sing-a-long, Howard telling Raj they are not recreating the wedding American Dad: (don't watch the show so forgive me for not knowing names) the family walking over the mountains Modern Family: Manny and Jay going to (and getting kicked out of) the sing-a-long The Simpsons: They're driving and bump into a deer and start the Do Re Mi spoof mentioned above MOVIES Enchanted: Not only is Julie the narrator, but Giselle makes clothes out of curtains and does a twirl similar to the opening scene National Lampoon's European Vacation: Clark twirls on the mountains singing the opening number BOOKS House of Night: Erin and Shaunee decide that Damien is 'exactly like that goody nun', the gang is hanging out at the Street Cats pound (run by nuns) and they're watching the movie Top 8: On the very first page Madison has the quote on her profile listed as 'So long, farewell'
I also know a Simpsons style spoof of Do Re Mi: DOUGH... The stuff that buys me beer. RAY... The guy that sells me beer. ME... The guy who drinks the beer FAR... The distance to my beer. SO... I think I'll have a beer. LA... La la la la la la beer. TEA... No thanks, I'm drinking beer. That will bring us back to... (Looks into an empty glass) "D'OH!"

I remembered another book: switched from the trylle trilogy. When Wendy gets to the palace she says 'i feel like I'm in princess diaries and Julie Andrews is the kidnapper'

AND MORE: MOVIES Mental: the mother is obsessed with TSOM, so the opening scene is a spoof of TSOM's opening, she, the husband and the five daughters sing Edelweiss in a re-creation of the festival scene and a clip of the actual film is shown.

LOL yes, that's Family Guy. Seth MacFarlane is a huge TSOM fan, as well as musical theater/movies in general.

I loved The Nanny long before I really became obsessed with TSOM. Which is a little weird I guess but whatever. I don't care too much about it these days (I don't really like sitcoms at all anymore) but sometimes I think about how I must have a sort of nanny-and-the-boss complex or something. LOL

One reason I always loved that show was that the storyline reminded me of TSOM! As I recall they had a few tips of the hat to SOM. A few lines and even an episode where Fran Drescher's character gets amnesia and (briefly) think's she Maria from SOM.

Another reference in NCIS... In one of the latest episodes of NCIS (season 13 episode 15) I just watched, an NCIS agent Timothy McGee knows from his past brings up the memory of them traveling the world and asks McGee if he still remembers them visiting Austria by train. McGee then answers "Oh yes, I do. I still have those Lederhosen, by the way." At which Tony Dinozzo replies the following (see enclosed screen captions) LOL: Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

There's an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (quite possibly my favorite show!) where someone asks Buffy how she's doing and she says "I'm fine. I mean, I'm not running around, wind in my hair, 'The hills are alive with the sound of music' fine, but... I'm coping." I believe its The Dark Age.

Here are a few more I noticed myself: *In "The Addams Family Values", the camp leaders make Wednesday, Pugsley, and Joel watch a bunch of movies that will give them more "spirit" and the first movie they put in is "The Sound of Music". *On the TV show "Gilligan's Island", Gilligan and the Skipper were discussing the Professor giving Gilligan a new nose and the Skipper says "How would it be to have a nose like Cary Grant? Or Jack Lemmon or Jimmy Stewart or even Julie Andrews?" *In "Tooth Fairy", Jerry brings food back to his and Lily's seats (Lily was actually played by Julie Andrews) and he says "I brought a few of your favorite things." *In the TV special "Halloween With the Addams Family", the song that they sing near the end sounds a lot like a slowed down parody of "My Favorite Things" (Or maybe that's just my brain, trying to put two of my favorite things together, I'm not certain)
And, as mentioned before, it is also referenced quite a few times in The Nanny (obviously), Will and Grace, and Friends, so I won't go over those again.

On top of the other references and parodies, I forgot to mention Nanny McPhee. The first movie is quite similar to the Sound of Music; seven unruly children, a widowed father, a nanny/governess that comes in to save the family... I actually love this movie (and Emma Thompson). The other eastereggs include the youngest child being named Agatha, the father's deceased wife coming from the wealthy background and not himself, and the fact that the father falls in love with his younger maid who never really had a proper upbringing over the woman he was going to marry (a wealthier, better educated woman who turned out not to be as nice as he originally thought she was). Side note, there are some great actors and actresses in this film, including Emma Thompson, Angela Lansbury, and Colin Firth.

I have boys and there are belching birds in that one, LOL
