Just out of curiosity how old were you all when you first saw the movie? I think I was about 5 when I first remember watching it, although I'm sure I had seen it before then. I started watching it earlier today with my daughter who is 4 and she wouldn't even let me pause it to make a phone call, lol. We got interrupted by dinner during "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and didn't get to finish it. She was so cute though and kept calling it the Maria movie. It made me wonder if she would sit and watch the whole thing. I might try it with her tomorrow.

I don't know how old I was, probably six or seven. All I remember is coming into my parents' room and sitting on the bed. My mom had it on (it was probably the holiday airing or something) and was just at the part where the Captain joins the children in singing, and even then it struck me how pretty the children's harmonies were. It stuck with me for a long time after that even though I wasn't the huge fan of it then that I am now.

I was four, and it was still out in theaters at the time (1968). My mother was always amazed that I sat through that long movie! We had the soundtrack record and had played it a lot, so I was familiar with the songs. I guess that's what held my attention.

I think the first TV broadcast was in 1976, so I would have been 9 or 10. I do remember loving Maria and wondering why she'd want to kiss such an mean man! Now, of course.......ROFL

I fist saw about a year and a half ago so... 17. An age meaning one totally skips over even any idea of crushing on Rolfe or Friedrich and goes straight for the Captain. *shrug*
We were always more of a Mary Poppins household; I've been watching that movie for longer than I can remember.

I have the honour of having seen it at the cinema when it first came out in 1965, at the ripe old age of 5. I saw it with my mother and grandmother, and was enthralled all the way through (with similar thoughts to Utility). But I do remember thinking what a bonus the Intermission was, and even now I end up feeling a little disappointed whenever I go to the cinema these days and there is no Intermission - it was the best bit!

Oh dear, I was very old. I was 20. I know that's a little crazy but I live in Brazil and they never dubbed the songs here, so when I was little my parents didn't think to introduce it to me. Also my family was never very musical so I discovered my passion for them a little late in life. I wish it would be on TV here as often as it does in the US.

I know, I wouldn't leave during intermission because I love listening to the orchestra play the music.

I think I was around 8? Then I watched it really often till I was about 12, after that I kind of stopped watching it because secondary school started and I didn't have time. Then once when I was 14 I fell sick pretty badly and I watched it because all the other movies we had were too intense. It felt like I was watching it for the first time all over again because I was picking new things up (like ehem how good-looking CP was and how pretty JA was and how good they looked together EHEM) and startrd shipping Maria and the Captain really hard

I was probably around 4 years old when I first saw it on VHS. I think my mom made it a necessity to watch.

I made sure my daughter saw it when she was 4 - then she watched it every single day for 6 weeks!

I was 8 when it came out. Also loved the intermission. Gasp you saw it at the theaters? I'm jealous. Do you remember the craze for the film?
I saw it for the first time when I was 10. My grandmother urged me to watch it (as it was going to be on tv) and thought I would like it. She told me that Julie Andrews was in it and thought that would sway me as I had really liked Mary Poppins when I was 6. I was 10 and not impressed. Very, very reluctantly I did watch it. I remember being absolutely blown away to the point of being speechless.

I can remember my mother telling me (in 1965) that there was a new film out that was sweeping America, and that it would be coming to our home town (in England) soon - and when it did, my grandmother came to stay especially so that we could all go to see it together (when I was 5). I think it was almost my first trip to the cinema to see a 'proper film' (rather than Walt Disney cartoons), so I can remember my own excitement being buoyed up by all the other people there, both grown-ups and children. I loved it - I couldn't believe a film could be so wonderful!

I was two! I don't actually remember the first time I watched but I know I was two because I asked for a guitar for my third birthday so I could 'be like Maria' Also, I don't think I ever went through the Friedrich/Rolfe crush stage. When I was little it was all about the wedding. Then I took a 6-7 year long hiatus from watching it. Why? Please don't ask me (I actually don't know). Anyway the reason no longer exists. So from fourteen I fell head deep into the crazy love I have that still continues today. As such I was always crushing on Chris. (I do love Nicholas though, but that's just mostly because he looks at Julie so adoringly)
