Ohhh Grainger! I loved playing Lincolnshire Posy in high school! I was also supposed to play Shepherd's Hey in our wind ensemble but I went and broke a finger two days before the concert. We are playing Lincolnshire Posy for our summer concerts in the community group I play in (It's a very good community group). We aren't doing all of the movements though, just a couple of them. My favorite Grainger piece is probably the Children's March. We played that one last year and I've played it a couple of times before. It's a lot of fun to play. He has a lot of cool and fun pieces.

Which movements are you doing? We played all of them, but Horkstow Grange is my favorite.
I really enjoyed playing those concert band "classics" - our band director made sure that we played a lot of them over my four years. Grainger, Vaughan Williams, Holst, Gordon Jacob, John Barnes Chance, etc.

We are playing the first movement "Dublin Bay," the second movement "Horkstow Grange," and the third movement "Rufford Park Poachers." They are all nice, but my favorite is the first movement. I like the way it flows. I played in the Wind Symphony in college and we played a lot of stuff and a lot of classic band literature. I don't think there is anyone out there who has been in high school band who hasn't played Holst's Military Suites. We just had our spring concert and we played some pretty hard stuff. I play 1st clarinet and I really had to work hard. We played:
Candide (I love this piece) La Forza Del Destino Trauersinfonie (Wagner, extreme breath control and intonation has to be spot on) Finale from Symphony No 5 (Shostakovich) Sinfonians Shivaree.
Our summer music is a bit lighter, lol, because we play outdoors and have a larger older audience that enjoys show tunes and big band style music. More light and fun stuff, summer pops style. It's kind of a nice change in pace from the Spring Concert. I love playing and singing. Music is such a huge part of who I am. I could never give it up. Blessed to have a family that supports that and understands (somewhat) my need for it.

loved reading through this thread! everyone has such different tastes yet we all are connected by a love for tsom.
the movie is particularly special to me because of the nostalgia it brings me, but i have to admit i dont really listen to a lot of other musicals. however i di love hamilton (of course) and the movie la la land!
as for my other music taste, i listen to a lot... taylor swift (i'm a huge fan), random indie artists, the weeknd - its all over the place. my latest obsession is bad bunny HAHA. i'm also a musician - piano - and a ballet dancer, so i listen to a lot of classical music as well.
how about you all?

I enjoyed this thread as well. I haven't listened to classical music in ages, but my taste in music is varied. It ranges from Julie Andrews, to country artists like Reba McEntire (HUGE fan of hers) and Loretta Lynn, to rock artists like Ozzy, Aerosmith, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, to Jelly Roll and gospel music. Oh, Eminem is another one I listen to on occasion. If were talking songs that remind us of M&G, God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. There's actually a lot of country songs that remind me of M&G. Do any of you listen to country music (especially the older, classics)?

"I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady always reminds me of Maria. Probably mostly because Julie Andrews is singing it, but also because if the dinner invite/Elsa conversation had never happened, I picture Maria as retiring to her room after "So Long, Farewell" and just soaking in how fabulous it was to dance with the captain, once she was alone with her thoughts. Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" reminds me of Georg (before Maria). I find it to be haunting and beautiful. It is easy to picture Georg playing this while alone with his despair over Agathe. It doesn't hurt that CP was a piano player, which makes it all the more easy to picture if you have seen clips of him playing. I don't listen to much country Silver-White-Winters though oddly enough, there is a country song that sometimes makes me think of G&M. Don't laugh. It's "Baby, I'm Burnin'" by Dolly Parton. I think I got there because it is on my morning workout list, along with many SOM songs, so my brain just somehow put G&M in the song? Anyway, it's a fun song, though I must say, I could do without the raygun sound effects.

And when I think about Maria and the song, I think about bloomandgrow's story My Fair Governess. Good song and a great fic. I don't really listen to classical music much, so I can't say much on that. As for Dolly, I can see (or hear haha) how that reminds you of M&G. For me, Dolly's version of "I Will Always Love You", reminds me of the feelings Elsa had when leaving the villa. Speaking of that, I ought to rewrite the songfic I wrote to that song. My writing has improved a lot since then. Anyway. "I Keep On Lovin' You" by Reba McEntire (I am a huge fan) reminds me of Georg and Maria. You might have to listen to it or look up the lyrics to fully understand why it reminds me of M&G.
