Ok, let's dump all My Fair Lady-related things here. Pictures, videos, articles, you name it! A Post-Recording Conversation (bonus track) from the 1956 My Fair Lady Broadway Recording:You'll need a Spotify account to hear this (I just got it today...it's free and the best thing ever!) : play.spotify.com/track/0mBxTdVxundFwh0Gttx8Kv?play=true&utm_source=open.spotify.com&utm_medium=openI embedded it here as well...not sure if it's gonna work: The conversation is kinda funny. Also, I can't believe Julie was 20 in this recording! She speaks so maturely. After discovering this album on Spotify, I had no idea there are 2 versions of the recording. Until now, I only knew of the 1959 London cast recording (which is on my iPod). The other one (where this bonus track is found) is the 1956 Broadway cast. If you listen to both versions, Julie's voice sounds so much younger in the '56 one. As well, she doesn't "talk/shout" some of the notes if you know what I mean.

The Broadway recording of My Fair Lady is my favourite. She sings better. And I love that interview at the end of the CD (I have that CD too!)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the Broadway recording better than the London. I think the London is more popular and it's all fancy in stereo and everything but I like both Julie's singing in the Broadway one and the orchestra sound. In my opinion the London recording sounds too bright.
is it just me or does Julie's accent sound a little different than we're used to hearing here? might just be going insane from all my schoolwork.
also: "Hoctober." she's so adorable.

I did notice that she (and the other singers) in the London recording rolled all their "r's" in their singing. I didn't really like that. It was probably the vocal coach who instructed to do so. But thankfully we didn't hear that in any other musical/movie that she appeared in. Found this today! https://instagram.com/p/9jIfMii4cY

Rolling (technically, trilling) the 'r's is a very classical way of singing.

I didn't have a chance to re-listen to it. I wonder if peoples' accents change over time...

Rolling (technically, trilling) the 'r's is a very classical way of singing. True, but I usually only roll the r's when singing in Latin, not typically in English.

It was the style then, much the way soprano belting is the style now.

I just love her to pieces. She is so genuine and speaks from the heart <3 <3 <3
Random observation: the recording of TSOM in that video...is that in a higher key? I compared it to the soundtrack and the one in the YT video sounds higher by almost a semitone.

It sometimes seems to me that different regions' recordings/DVDs are not quite at the same pitch. but I also can't view the video so I can't say for sure update: just pulled some strings and watched it "from germany." yes, the clips from mary poppins and tsom are both pitched higher. I've noticed this before with australian versions of things. it always bothers me when I hear them like this because while I by no means have perfect pitch, I always have a sense of what key a piece should be in or what note a song should start on other edit: "oh my lovely kids!" she's so cute omg. and can you imagine auditioning in front of julie andrews for the role that really put her on the map?

Hmmm, that's strange that you can't see it. You're watching this from the US I presume? I'm watching this in Canada and it works for me in Worldwide, US, Canada, Australia. Just keep changing to other countries until it works like sagaofjenny suggested. If I see the same video on another site, I'll post it.
Yeah, I figured that the recording was pitched slightly higher. I didn't think they would do another recording in a slightly higher key. I don't have perfect pitch either, but if you listen to a song (or an album) long enough, you will know if the song sounds transposed.

I'm in the US, but I don't know what you mean by 'changing to other countries'? Often video clips are run just a slight bit faster than normal for time constraints---it isn't necessarily visible, but speeding it makes the audio sound as if it is pitched higher. Back in the dark ages we used to play our 33rpm LPs on 45. Made everyone sound like the Chipmunks. LOL

if you use a proxy you can basically pretend you're in a different country and therefore access the video

You'll see the name of your country (or it might say "Worldwide"). Click on it and you can change to whichever country you want. I can post a screencap whenever I get on my laptop.
