I found this link to what I gather was a UK live production but I might have that wrong. And I didn't watch the whole thing. Just quick look at Laendler and "gazebo" scenes. Lots of weird things but some things I really liked (like Maria's braid). Not sure if it will stay up for a long time, so enjoy while you can!

That's very interesting and looks better than the version we had in the U.S.

I never knew that either could sing! @sorcha I'm so glad you found your way here, not only in general, but specifically so someone else would want to glow over this production with me! There were things I didn't like - both Liesl and Elsa didin't seem pretty enough, and Georg was a little young looking. And I'll admit I haven't watched it all the way through. But STILL - love Maria's mix of cheeky and vulnerable, and her braid, and that Max is understated. And the children seemed quite natural. I liked the way they included news clips of the Anschluss (something Wise threatened to do when his relatively understated approach was opposed by Salzburg officials). This was so so so much better than the horrible live version we had in the US two years ago! Oh, I need to watch it straight through. Sorcha

Sorcha There were moments when Liesl really really glowed I thought, but I get where you're coming from. I kind of fell head over heels for Julian Ovenden's Georg simply because he reminds me of this boy who played Jean Valjean in our school production of Les Miserables (which was so fantastic)...they look nothing alike though, I think it must be the voice!! I also like the way Maria talks and the how different she and Elsa look, if you get me? What was the horrible US live version?? Never heard of it! I love her braid! It makes her look just like a schoolgirl, and I honestly love the way she plays her confrontation with Georg over the children and their not-so-gazebo gazebo scene and the Laendler....arghhhhh! You really do. It's really really good - I also love the fact that because it's a live version of the stage play, it doesn't have to compete with the original film as its supposed to be different.

I actually like how they use her hair to show change and growth in Maria. The guy who plays Georg is nice looking, but he does look a bit young and I still think Christopher Plummer is the best Georg ever and the most handsome! I have always had a crush the movie Captain.

Yeah cause then Maria is like 'Marta are you alright?' afterwards - kudos to the little girl for getting straight back up again and carrying on with no fuss at all!

I've been watching this on repeat since Sunday...aren't the two leads fantastic? I never knew that either could sing! I don't know any of the actors in this except for Julian Ovenden. And I only saw him on Foyle, being on that show I had no idea he could sing. Thanks augiesannie for posting the vid! I will check it out.
