Finding a proper version to watch our favorite movie can be hard - especially if you live in Austria. That's what came to my mind when I was desperately searching for a DVD on Amazon in 2007. Nowadays, there are 3 different types one could buy in Trapp-land: - The 45. anniversary edition (1 Disc) - The 50. anniversary edition (2 Disc, also available on Blu-Ray) - The Steelbook edition (2 Disc with lyrics booklet) Back in 2007, the only serious option was the steelbook edition. That's why I ordered it - and never regret doing it. The movie itself is digitally remastered, but with all the lovely crinkles and edges from the source material. The sound quality is awesome, and the bonus material is essential equipment for every hardcore fan. I'm really interested which versions and editions of the movie exist in other countries. A photo would also be great ! Greetings from Austria, AustroBob

It's got Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, a book with all the info on the film, making of etc., 'Snapshots from Salzburg' (pretty much postcard sized pictures of scenes), 1965 souvenir program reproduction and the music box (which I'm missing )

Wow, once again y'all prove that you are much better fans than I am!
I have a copy of the 45th Anniversary DVDs--which I keep mostly for nostalgia and then we watch the digital 50th version we downloaded.

Just because you don't have a special-deluxe-ultra-mega edition of the movie, doesn't mean you're an inferior fan^^!! I also don't plan on buying the blu ray edition anytime soon, since the steelbox will do nicely.

TheBeeStings, I echo what austrobob says. You're here and it doesn't matter what version you have or have seen. We all know you love it just as much.
Revcap, I think the 40th anniversary DVD is the one I have besides the latest blu ray.

It's numbered too!
I've got...I'm going to list them in the format that I have.
Bluray 50th anniversary, 45th anniversary (limited edition, #12345)
DVD 40th anniversary edition, 5 Star Collection (aka 35th anniversary edition) (I own two copies of this, the silver version and the white version).
VCD Nothing special, came out in 2005, has Chinese subtitles. I've only watched it once, when I got it. Horrible quality. I only got it cause it was only about 5 bucks on yesasia.com
VHS 2 copies, one of which is the first copy of the movie I ever bought myself and the other is one that I never opened.
