Hey guys! So, I am starting a story that I've wanted to write for awhile now, but I'm finding certain aspects of it super tricky. I was curious, what do you think 16-year-old Georg and 16-year-old Maria would think of each other? As in, if you plucked both of them out of their separate pasts and plopped them in a room together? At first, I was like, oh they'd totally want to kill each other, but now I'm in limbo because as I was writing, there were a million other factors. Like, how far along into military training would he have been? When did he start his 'infamous' womanizing past? Assuming there was a level of attraction between the two, would Maria be oblivious and tomboyish or would she notice? Did he care about separate classes back then? Did she? Was she always brash enough to stand up for herself or was she afraid of intimidating men because of her home? I have my thoughts, but these two are running away from me and I do want to keep them in character! Oof, this story was so much easier when it was one awesome scene in my head. Now that I'm writing it, I'm realizing I can't get to that scene without about five or six chapters leading up to it and I'm like WOMP. I would be so grateful for your thoughts!

No they wouldn't want to kill each other. Georg is ever the gentleman and Maria always sees the best in people. In reality, Georg joined the navy at fourteen so there would've been some element of that. The womanizing I'm not really sure (I'm not the person to ask) It's hard to say what would have been there between them in this situation, but if we are assuming there is something, I think Maria would notice, even if she can't exactly identify it. She isn't clueless, just inexperienced. Given her home life I think she would definitely be wary of men like Georg, but not immediately afraid. And she would definitely have the outspoken nature.
That's my thoughts anyway! I hope that helped. It sounds like an awesome story.

I don't think I can give you much advice, I can't really get into stories that have them the same age. I find the age difference incredibly important to their interaction (and pretty sexy, too) so my brain doesn't really go there. Sorry.

I think after reading what you wrote and thinking about them, I'm leaning more towards them being shy around each other at first. It's kind of a weird story concept, which I guess I could just explain and that would be easier? So, I watched a documentary about Hitler's obsession with different legends and using those legends to further Nazi technology and one of them was his obsession with the fountain of youth. I thought it would be a lot of fun to write about if somehow during their escape, Herr Zeller (unauthorized) took what he thought was a drug to knock people out with the intention of using it either on Georg (to take him) or on Maria (as a potential hostage), but he messed up and accidentally dosed them with an early experimental version of "the fountain of youth" and they were reverted back to their teenage selves with no memory of each other and the children (and Max and crew) had to deal with them and figure out how to change them back and how to get out of Austria. That was the longest sentence ever. Sorry about that! Anyway, I suppose I'm trying to find a balance between everyone around them knowing their history and their personalities while they meet for the first time as completely different people? It's a work in progress. It's turning out to be a lot of fun, though, so I hope it comes together!

I actually really love the age difference as well, it would just be weird in this particular circumstance (see above summary! )

All I know is that 16 yr old boys of Georg's background who are dead set on joining the military aren't usually that into girls until they are older...or perhaps their social skills are so underdeveloped they don't have the wherewithall to communicate with them, so he might have found her interesting, but I think it is unlikely they ever even spoke!

i don't mind same age stories, tbh, when they are older. teen georg and teen maria stretches it a bit. but i'm up for anything once. you write, i read. that seems to be the only system working for me now. bring it.

I don't think they would have killed each other at 16. Georg is the way he is when they meet in the movie because of his life experiences and the same goes for Maria. At 16 they haven't had all of those yet so Georg isn't going to be as strict with nose in the air kind of thing because he isn't hurting from losing a wife that doesn't exist yet, if that makes sense. We kind of get a small glimpse of his lighter side in the movie, but a very small glimpse of what he may have been like before Agathe's death. It definitely would have been different.

I like the stories where she's still a girl and he's a young man, myself.
