I am so glad that Revcap has chosen for her avatar the long lost photo of Georg von Trapp at the moment he finds Maria's letter propped up on the table at the party! We discussed some time ago what we thought she wrote in her letter to him, but I have a feeling that, after spending a few days dejected at the villa, he decided he had to do something. So, sitting at his desk he may have started writing a reply; who knows, that may have been where he was when he heard Maria's voice again on her return from the abbey. So when he went outside to greet her with the infamous "Good Evening..." , I wonder what was written on the sheet of paper left behind on his desk?

Fraulein, Your sudden leave surprised us all. Are you well? The children miss you greatly. They keep asking when you are coming back. Therefore, I ask you to come back, I want you to come back!
I am looking forward to seeing you!

Oh, to know what was in her letter would be so telling! And to know his honest thoughts when he read it, what tactics went through his mind to get her back, what role he thought he played in her departure.
I like this idea of him finally giving in and writing a letter to her after spending days without her and realizing he can not spend forever without her. How much would he reveal about his feelings? Would it just be a formal letter requesting her return to fulfill her obligations (because he's a military man and not used to talking about emotions)? Would he lay it out there that he loves her knowing he has nothing to lose? Would he ask to see her in person at the abbey to talk?
I guess it doesn't matter because in this scenario, she returns before he sends the letter. Still it's a fun fanfiction storyline to think about.

And to know his honest thoughts when he read it, what tactics went through his mind to get her back, what role he thought he played in her departure. As long as he did not know why she left - because the baroness scared her to death - he would not go to find her. I bet he thought that she backed up after feeling that he was in love with her. He did not understand that she was afraid of her feelings. He was too irritated with her leaving so abruptly and in the middle of the night.
