Oh yes, the Ländler is filled with sexual inuendos. Everything about it from the small shy smiles to the touching and the intense gazes screams I want you.

I liked the idea that it was a relief to be able to touch.

Have I been under a rock that I missed this article?
It was delightful and I fully agree! Its what makes the Sound of Music so popular and why it endures in people's hearts for so long, because it changes as you do. Loved this!

LOL I think I shared that a while back. I actually have it bookmarked ;-) Good stuff, though, so thanks for sharing it again!

Yes I thought so - but I was , uh, reinvigorated by it.

They should have mentioned the part where the Captain tells Maria to take off her hat and turn around upon her arrival at the villa. There's a lot going on there that went completely over my head as a kid.

You mean like he might be checking out a lot more than just her clothes?

You mean like he might be checking out a lot more than just her clothes? LOL I don't think that was the intent, but, well, he is a man.

this is an old favorite that I thought I'd bump up for the pleasure of rereading!! Thank you so much for boosting this! I had never read this article before, but I can see why everyone loves it. It was just wonderful. I never thought the Laendler was that snooze-inducing when I first watched the film, but I didn't really appreciate it until I was a teenager and could read between the lines a little more. I remember watching an interview where Julie and Chris talk about having to convey that they desired each other and were falling in love in the midst of these otherwise innocuous scenes, and the article really breaks it down well. (Plus, it gave me a few good laughs. You can tell the author had fun writing it!)

It's funny to think of a family watching it on TV, but all of them seeing something different in it!

When I was a kid, the gazebo was my least favorite scene of the whole movie. It was so boring! The song was slow, I didn't really understand the dialogue, the kids weren't there - I usually fastforwarded through the balcony and the gazebo, and went right to the wedding. Oh, how times have changed! It is rare that a movie can please so many audiences on their own levels. Maybe even more rare that a movie can be so incredibly romantic while still be family friendly, which I guess was the whole point of the article.

Agree with you all and of course loved the article. This is basically the magic of the film, noy just the songs but all the subtleties, latent romance, JA-CP chemistry and the adaptability to all generations. I wonder what I will think of the movie when I turn 80... LoL
