Well, considering the fact that my posts tend to be on the wordy side, you'd need yards of space on your eyelids! <G> THANK YOU, augiesannie!

Do you think when RM sings "Climb Every Mountain" it is the first time Maria has heard her sing? I know they sing together in the play, but I'm referencing the movie. Maria seems almost memorized by the end of the song. I wonder how well they know each other. Do they have a reason to chat except when Maria is asking for forgiveness for her latest transgression? Maria is obviously willing to tell her details about what is happening that she hasn't told anyone else, so that shows that she trusts RM, but is that just because she is the person of authority in the convent, or have they formed a bond over their time together?
Does anyone know how much interaction a RM and a postulant would have in real life?

In my post in The Movie/Background/God is The Bigger Elvis, which features life in a real convent, the RM there seems to spend time listening to one junior nun about her troubles. I expect there are quite a few young postulants who arrive at the convent because they have faced problems outside, some of their making and some not, so I should think listening and guiding are part and parcel of the job.
I'd like to think Maria and the RM have talked before, and also that Maria's expression of wonder at the end of CEM is because of the inspiration she had received through her;I imagine Maria has never had someone to sit and listen to her like that before.

I do think they had talked before and that RM is a good mentor and confidante. But do you know what a diegetic song is? It's a song that actually functions as a song, e.g. Edelweiss or Lonely Goatherd. I don't envision CEM as diagetic, that is, I don't think RM actually belted out a song in her office, I think she said things along the lines of the song. Sorry if this disappoints.

Don't be sorry. I'm never disappointed when reality is pointed out because this movie lives in a special fantasy world in my head where it all actually happened, so it always remains untarnished. I had never heard of a diegetic song. Thanks for teaching me something new.
