What would this dress have been made out of?? I'm guessing cotton, but I could be completely wrong... Help appreciated. Hoping to update my story soon.

I really don't know, I'm not a seamstress in the least, but it looks like some kind of blend fabric, maybe linen... wool? good luck.

If you want to be more specific, the bodice is of a rougher texture than the floral fabric. It looks like hopsack, which is a coarser woven linen. The floral I would guess to be chintz, a smooth almost polished cotton with a printed design.

My only contribution is that the floral parts might be embroidered?
Also that it looks more like a dress she might have worn after she got married as it looks a little expensive for our nun-governess...do we see it anywhere in the film?

Ah, silly me...after all those years of watching the Laendler, that tells me where my attention was focussed (obviously not on Maria!)
Although I have to say, CP in white tie and tails is just knockout...
