Humor me on this one...
After 'My Favorite Things', Maria approaches the Captain about play clothes.
Maria: Captain. Uh, I wonder if, before you go... I could talk to you about some clothes for the children, for when they play. Captain: Fraulein Maria... Maria: If I could just have some material -- Captain: You are obviously many things, not the least of which is repetitious.
What did he mean by 'repetitious'? We can guess that maybe he is referring to their conversation earlier when he going over their schedule and Maria asks when the children actually play. But he talked over her question then as if he hadn't even heard it so it has always seemed strange to me that he would say she's repetitious about this matter when as far as he has acknowledged, this is the first time they've discussed the children and playtime. For the sake of this prompt, let's imagine that they had another conversation (between their first meeting and bedtime) about the children having time to play.
Write that conversation. I think we'd all love to read it.
Alternative option:
Write another conversation/missing scene that happens before bedtime...
