It looks like a dark gold to me. I have a set that looks pretty much like it, it's not a quilt though, just a bedspread set. I think if you got dark gold that would be the closest And it's probably just like cotton or something on the other side. Should be easy enough to get made I'd say.

Yes, I agree, it's a sludgy gold colour, and judging by its lightness, filled with down. From the photo immediately above, it looks as though the stuffing is secured with a similarly-coloured rosette-style trim. Sweet dreams!
I have always liked the colour scheme in this room; the green-gold colours makes it gently timeless (no garish colours here), with a lot of white to keep it fresh and light (maybe to reflect on Maria's character, although obviously it was not originally her room). I think these palettes are one of the reasons the film doesn't date, because it's not tied to one period, rather it's all very subtle and 'knocked back'.

I don't have anything really to contribute to this discussion except to say that if I had that comforter on my bed, I would never be able to get up in the morning. And I already have a tough time with that. Love it.

I have always liked how comfortable that room feels to look at (I can remember thinking that I'd like to snuggle under that duvet aged 5 when I first saw the film!) But Maria's room at the Abbey would have been the opposite - so it must have been a bit overwhelming when she first arrived at the villa.

Great topic! One moment when I always really love the comforter is when Gretl and Marta hide underneath and she flips it back to reveal them, in MFT.

interesting perspective! I personally have always loved the color scheme in the room - like indigoblue said, it is very "knocked back". That comforter really does look really comfy, now that I think about it...
