so I was prompted to watch this now that you brought it to our attention... we always refer to the Pegasus landing, but those horses look like they have fish tails! or am I just exhausted? people who've seen them up close? augiesannie? gothicbutterfly95? or any others I'm forgetting...

Unfortunately I was on the other side of the lake. It's actually really hard for the general public to get in there (at least that's what I was told when I was in Salzburg)
Regardless, looking at photos from the movie, they do seem to have fish tails, but they also have little wings, as well as heads way too horse-like for them to be full-on seahorses. So they might not be pegasuses (pegasi?), but I would say they're some type of mythical animal.

Sources tell me they are Hippocampi...
A Hippocampus is a mythological creature described by Homer, half fish and half horse; several used to draw Poseidon the sea-god's chariot swiftly over the surface of the sea -rather magical.
Still, the Hippocampus Landing doesn't quite have the same ring about it as the Pegasus Landing!

*Smacks head* Of course they're Hippocampi. The 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' book told me about them and I immediately recognised them from the description because they were the mascot for my parents' university. HOW DID I NOT GET THIS?
To be fair, Hippocampi Landing doesn't sound nearly as good. But now I want to write a story about it.

Apparently this is what they thought sea horses looked like when they were grown up!

I suppose that a sea captain would have hippocampus, not Pegasus. It makes sense, but I agree... hippocampi landing doesn't roll off the tongue very well.

That's what I put in my story ... that I made up in my head last night ... when I couldn't sleep. A sea captain would have these over Pegasuses. Pegasi? I think I always knew they had fish tails, but went along with Pegasus because really didn't know what they were. Until of course indigoblue mentioned Hippocampus and I face-palmed.

OMG OMG this was amazing, can't believe I never saw it before, thanks revcap! Doesn't he sound exactly like the anti-film snob we've all heard about? Also what's with that hat? As far as the hippocampi, I can't possibly add anything to this knowledgeable discussion, and all the pix I took were just of me next to their faces, except for this one. Attachment Deleted

You notice something new all the time. CP seems so different at the beginning of this juicy tidbit than he does at the end where I think we have all decided he must have been drunk. This is an amazing find and he admits once again that he decided to do the film because of Julie. Lol, the hat was killing me though.

The whole piece descends from a personal interview with Capt von Trapp himself, to one with a Tyrolean pixie, to one with an inebriated reprobate...do you think he was trying out his acting roles on us?!

I am dredging up this thread as Revcap's find is a classic of behind-the-scenes clips, not to be missed.
Click on the blue words 'this one' in the first post and enjoy.

Photo taken the same day as the clip in the first post?

I think he must be practicing for his confusing conversations with Elsa during the last half of this. Happiness is a roundedly square cubic word? Umm...what? His hair is a mess, and not the lovely hands run through it mess from after the honeymoon. He just looks like a drunk wreck, but is still sober enough to play piano and speak without slurring. Though, he is rambling about nothing. It is quite a contrast from the put together actor from the beginning of the clip. Very interesting behind the scenes look!

Yes, I think the general opinion in another thread which contained only the last part of this clip, was that he was 'three sheets to the wind' and finished when he did it.

Happiness is a roundedly square cubic word? Umm...what? I think he means that happiness is boring, with no edges, no surprises, no provocation, not fascinating, with nothing to explore... It is an artist's view!
