I know there has been some discussion (somewhere) about when G and M start to fall in love... silly whistle and ridiculous pinecones sound cute and all, but really? I never subscribed to that theory that it was the moment they met. During a PM/email exchange recently it was said to me that it would be quite boring without the building sexual tension, the angst and arguments, etc... but what if they did fall in love instantly. Could you write a story where they simply know they love the other at first sight? Like, some enchanted evening across a crowded room kind of *boom* thing? AND make it interesting? Any ideas how it might happen like that?

I think it could be likely happen after "My favorite things". He's fully dressed with his tie on while she's in her nightgown, they ran into each other and almost made a "crush" . She probably realized it's inappropriate and fetched her coat to cover. They had a little disagreement and made each other a bit frustrated, but soon they were both satisfied for their victory: He emphasized that he's head of the household and the father of his children. She secretly came out a solution for the play coats. So my idea would be...after all of these, what if she went to his study and tried to convince him one more time for the play coat material?

Didn't you write a story with a similar situation lemacd? I think it could be done, but you'd need to drag the relationship out a bit. They could start to fall in love after one day - but they can't get married the next

I agree with you that I never truly buy into the theory that they fell in love on the day they met, however, I definitely think that such a story could be done (though, by a more talented writer than I). I think it would work if, as has already been said, the relationship was dragged on a bit. I don't really enjoy stories where characters fall in love at first sight and then confess their love to each other after only a couple of days; in my mind, it isn't really plausible or realistic. But, it could be done. I think perhaps it would work better if they didn't know it was love but knew they were feeling something, but I don't think it matters too much. I think it would have to be quite a long story, one that really focuses on specific details and really allows their feelings to mature and grow; to go from 'love at first sight' or some magnetic pull, to deep, perhaps unconditional love. I don't think it would really work without the tension that is seen in the film - especially their fight by the lake. And, as a PSA, if anyone attempts to write a story like this, please let me know because I'll definitely read it! (I'm nowhere near skilled enough to even try! ) ~ Georgia
