I do think that touch humanises her (as if we need it!) - but I can remember seeing the film first time when I was 5 and feeling relieved that she was 'normal' for forgetting, not like some cleverclogs adults!! And then I think she says "Oh, Kurt, now I remember!" when he comes into her room afterwards - I think it was the first time I had seen anyone not 'acting perfect' on screen, and it made me feel she was 'one of us'...

I wonder what Maria would have said to Liesl about Rolf (once she dried off and came and sat on the bed) if the other kids hadn't shown up. Just listened? Given advice?

Why is no one surprised to see Liesl in Maria's room during My Favorite Things? I think they all (at least the older ones) know she snuck out to see Rolf, and I guess could have pieced it together that she climbed in the window in Maria's room. I just think it's funny that she just shows up mid song, and no one finds her appearance surprising except her father.

I think that, being the oldest and more mature, she probably did a number of things separately, or perhaps just with Louisa or Friedrich.
Young kids are very accepting of things, so I think they assumed she had 'special' things to do after supper before rejoining them.

Having three kids, I can unequivocally state that siblings rarely concern themselves with where the others are unless they are wanting something. My oldest went on a weekend trip away with a church group, and my youngest never even realized he was gone. I think he was 15, and she was 8, at the time.

My kiddos would notice if one were missing, only because they are close in age and are each other's constant playmates. This wouldn't be the case with the Von Trapps of course. Though, it could easily be explained away on the walk/run back to their rooms..."Liesl, why weren't you in your room? I came in to get you when I was scared by the storm but you were gone!" "I was just getting water Gretl. I'm glad Fraulein Maria helped you. Now go back to bed." End of questions.
