Hi, I’m thinking of maybe starting to write my first SOM fanfiction so I just wanted to make sure I covered all bases.
Do you think Maria would've told Georg about the way Elsa confronted her the night of the party?
Part of me believes that she would probably tell him eventually, maybe on their honeymoon but part of me isn't sure. Maria strikes me as the type of person who wouldn't want to talk poorly about another person, despite the fact that they treated her badly. Perhaps she would have been very reluctant to talk about it and Georg found a way to coax it out of her?
Thoughts?

captainfraulein I agree with the fact that she would have been reluctant to tell Georg. In my mind, however, the subject comes up during the engagement period, not the honeymoon. I think that the topic would have been something that they discussed later on in their engagement, when Maria can trust Georg more. If that makes sense. Good luck writing your fanfic!

I go back and forth on this. Part of me thinks that she wouldn't want to speak poorly of Elsa in front of Georg. Elsa is gone, there is no reason to bring her back up. Then another part of me thinks that Georg would want more info on what exactly made her leave so abruptly during the party. If he wanted to, he could figure out a line of questioning that would get it out of her. Though, maybe they don't talk about that time at all and just focus on going forward instead of the painful confusing past?
I have not answered your question at all. Ok, I think Georg asks the right questions and Maria tells him that Elsa came up to her room that night to help her select a dress for the party. She doesn't go into much more detail and leaves it painting Elsa as someone who was trying to be helpful. Georg instantly knows Elsa's true intentions and doesn't push Maria any farther on it, as he knows the truth, and the details are then unimportant.
Can't wait to see how you end up handling this question in your fanfic!

Do you think Maria would've told Georg about the way Elsa confronted her the night of the party? That Elsa went to her bedroom to help her find a suitable dress and scared her by revealing her the truth about her feelings? No I do not think so..because the fact that she was in love with the Captain is true, Elsa did not lie, neither was unkind to Maria or rude. Maria got scared as she thought she had devoted herself to becoming a nun and Elsa revealed her a truth she ignored until then. Maria could have stayed at home, accept her feelings and face the captain, yet she preferred to run away to the abbey and seek guidance there. But in case Georg asked her why she left, I am sure she would say that she got frightened by realizing her feelings towards him and their contradiction with her supposed vocation. Both of them would have enough tact and discretion not to touch a sensitive subject like Elsa...

I don't think Maria would bring up the subject as she would never want to speak poorly of The Baroness. If Georg asked her why she had run away that night, perhaps she may have told him that she had spoken with Elsa that night but wouldn't imply that she made her run away because that's the truth. That doesn't necessarily mean that Georg wouldn't be suspicious about it though.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Georg wouldn't be suspicious about it though. I think she would not say that she spoke with Elsa directly to him. I imagine she would say that she got overwhelmed by her feelings, and got scared to face him in the dinner, in front of so many people, she felt inadequate to handle the situation, so she got panicked and ran away.

For what is worth, when I wrote my story "Coming Home," I sort of pictured Georg confronting Elsa in private after the party, doing his best to break up with her as gently as possible, trying to spare her feelings but at the same time leaving abundantly clear that he's in love with Maria, that he can't help feeling the way he does and that the beautiful postulant upstairs is his real, true soulmate. That would set Elsa off and she would give herself away. There's nothing more satisfactory than having the villain of the story "hang themselves". <evil grin.>
