Since Corona lockdown, my daughter has probably watched TSOM at least 50 times (yes, really), which indirectly led me to this board. Thank you all immensely for keeping me entertained with lovely stories while stuck in my house. Now I need your help, with two things really. 1.) How can we get the author of Gypsy Travelers to finish the story?!? 2.) I need help finding a story. I can’t remember anything about it except that for some reason G & M are sleeping together in his bed, but they’re not SLEEPING together. I think they spoon? And Maria finds amusement wiggling up against him at one point and Georg says, “Maria, stop that. You’re teasing me, it’s cruel.” I need to find it because it’s driving me insane that I can’t! Please help!

So glad you joined though.

So glad you joined though. It’s such a heartbreak to think it’ll never be finished. I went into it not knowing that it was incomplete and was devastated when I got to the “end”. I’ll never hear the words “RED WINE” without thinking of Georg now, haha. Thank you for the welcome. I’ve enjoyed many of your stories as well, the Walled Garden in particular is a favorite.

Worth rereading!

You make me smile, Sillywhistle, when you say your daughter has watched TSOM 50 times: I first saw it aged 5 in 1965 and loved it, but my own obsession with TSOM began when my mother gave it to our daughter for her 4th birthday. She watched it every day for 6 wks, and then more after that...6 x 7 = 42 + the rest = I don't know how much, but the person who was completely hooked after that was her mother (me!). I can remember watching CP and JA dance the Laendler when she had it on, and I just couldn't take my eyes off them (and nothing changes!)

Hahahahaha. I had seen it in my youth, but I was a Julie fan growing up because of Mary Poppins. My parents recorded it off the tv in the 80s, commercials and all, and it became one of the three movies we had to watch at home. I loved it and her, but of course as an adult I love TSOM more because of the romance and Julie & Chris together. My daughter actually first asked to watch the movie because her ballet class was learning a dance for their year-end performance to Do-Re-Mi, which they’ll never perform now. They had the cutest little Tyrolean costumes too, I’m so sad she’ll never do it!

What were your other 2 movies sillywhistle? We had TSOM, Mary Poppins, and Willy Wonka. I watched them so many times that I can still remember where the commercial breaks were for all of them. Anyway, I lost touch with TSOM as I grew up and then rediscovered my love of it watching it with my own kids. My favorite scenes are very different now than they were then! I am kind of jealous of your 51 times. We have never had a streak like that one. Maybe we can work in some more watching once this e-school business is done for the summer. I don't know about any of you other parents, but I've had my fill of Zoom meetings, internet problems, and printing worksheets.

Our three movies were our recorded Mary Poppins with commercials (I remember lots of Raid and Chips Ahoy commercials, which amazes me because I think both of those products still exist over 30 years later...), recorded Pete’s Dragon, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Now that I think about it, I believe we acquired An American Tail later on, too. I watched TSOM at my best friend’s house. We loved the Sixteen Going on Seventeen scene the most as kids, and it’s one of my least favorite scenes now. Haha. I’ve DEFINITELY had my fill of eLearning - I’m not just a parent, I’m a teacher! I did teach my kids to sing My Favorite Things over Zoom, though, and turned the lyrics into handwriting worksheets. Ha!

Remote learning is very... busy, but it's starting to wind down now that it's (finally) June. I will be happy when it ends so I can write more fanfic and not be stressed about completing work!

So I am of a different generation, I was little when TSOM came out, but the funny thing is that all those years, I barely thought of it. Would flip by when it was on TV. And then I happened to see it playing just before Christmas 2011 and .... the rest is history.
