I started with I think it was Devil Wears Prada, then Mamma Mia, followed by NCIS. While I have written for multiple fandoms, NCIS is my main fandom. That's why my username on FF Net is his-red-head.
Side Note: Any tips on how to work a forum? I started a forum for NCIS and am not sure how to get people to interact on it and actually use it. I can post the link if wanted.

I have briefly looked at other fandoms (Harry Potter and Phantom of the Opera, to name a few), but I have to admit that they're not as welcoming and supportive as the TSOM community, and I found their stories to be a bit boring. Probably because there were so many of them, and it's harder to run a much larger community than a relatively smaller one, like ours. They also didn't seem as tightly knit as us, so there wasn't really that sense of "togetherness" that I like in fandoms. That is what's great about us - we have very talented writers, we are all quite close, and we are a great community to be around. To answer your question, no, I do not write for any other fandoms besides TSOM, even though I have briefly looked at them.

At risk of seeming past it (in the UK), what is NCIS?!

At risk of seeming past it (in the UK), what is NCIS?! It's a tv show that follows special agents solving crimes involving marines and navy officers. Based in Washington DC. It's an amazing show.

The only fandom that I've ever written for was the 90s sitcom The Nanny, which had a surprisingly large online fanbase already back then! But I soon found that I really am more of a reader than a writer, and in that sense there have been several fandoms that I got really sucked into: Grey's Anatomy, The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia, The Mentalist, The Newsroom (Aaron Sorkin, anyone? ) and now this as well as the Princess Diaries (not that many but a few really good writers over there as well, although unfortunately they hardly ever write anymore, if at all). I do find that I cannot handle more than one or two fandoms at a time though, haha!

I actually just published a new chapter for one of my DWP fics (Paris Confessions). As for my MM stories, I hit a writer's block.

I've always been fascinated by how TSOM provides endless ideas for stories, discussions etc, even though there are only 4 main characters + the kids.
Do you think this is why the TSOM fanfic community keeps going? Are the characters so well drawn, and the actors so skilled that they continue to provide us with inspiration for new ideas 50 years after its first showing?

Everything was inexplicably done (think I used that word right), and it imprinted on everyone who has watched it. Because of TSOM being so well done, it has kept the attention of people spanning a generation or two. Coupled with people who have vivid imaginations, it's an explosion of creativity. If that all made sense?

For me, generally, it's all about a good love story combined with charisma between the main characters/actors. That goes for TSOM, but really movies and tv shows in general; if they meet those two criteria, there's a good chance it'll draw me into it. How long it keeps going for me has more to do with how active my favorite writers remain - once they stop writing I tend to drift away from the fandom as well. As for what's so inspiring from a writer's point of view, I cannot comment since I'm not a writer.

I think it's amazing acting coupled with extreme attention to detail. Every second of this (quite long) movie is so well thought out. The music is great. It is family friendly - kids like the songs and the scenes with the children, adults are taken with the love story. It is just so timeless.

Has any one of you watched Something's Gotta Give? It stars Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson and was released in 2002 (I think). I am curious if someone other than me is in the fandom. I've written a story for it, but no one has really read it or reviewed it.

I love reading the Clarisse/Joseph stories, their love story is one of my favorites in terms of movie couples. If there's ever a PD3 movie, I really hope to see more of Clarisse and Joseph's story. Do any of y'all ship them? Or know of any fics on sites other than ff net?

I am pretty old, so the whole concept of being in a fandom was unknown to me until I stumbled into TSOM because of my love for the movie. I sometimes read stories in other fandoms but the ones I like (Big Bang Theory and Fifty Shades) don't appeal to me to write in. Which relates to the question above of why TSOM is so darn writeable. I also think it's because in between the movie scenes there are so many places where you just MUST know what happened and that leads us to want to write about it. Plus familiar and appealing tropes like these.

I absolutely *love* Clarisse and Joseph, but am extremely picky when it comes to stories about them; I find that the huge majority is either not quite (or at all) in character, or just plain badly written. I often get the feeling it's written by fairly young people (which makes sense, considering the target audience of the PD movies), and most of the time they don't quite manage to get the voices and vocabulary right, imho. For me personally, Heart of Genovia falls into that first category, as much as I would like to love their writing - as there is so much of it. I really do love anything by WildMeiLing (who also wrote one or two TSOM stories) and the later stuff by Little Obsessions. Also, Captain Weirdo, evitamockingbird, VL24.

I've done Jane Austen Fan Fiction, dealing with Persuasion and P&P.
As for NCIS, if you ever meet someone who actually is in NCIS they'll tell you straight-out that it's nothing like the TV show.

I know it's not. I have heard that the show works closely with the actual NCIS to get the basics on things are ran. However, I'm not entirely sure that is true.

Has any of y'all wrote for the show Reba? Or Reba McEntire the actual person? I'm curious because there's a fandom on FF Net, but it isn't active all the time.
What about "A Court of Thorns and Roses" book series? Have any of you read the series? There is a huge fandom for it on FF Net & Wattpad.

Has anyone seen the movie Something's Gotta Give? I have seen the movie and have written a story on FF Net. I was wondering if anyone has read any of the stories in that fandom. Or has written any stories for the fandom? It really is a great movie and in my opinion, underrated.

Are any of you guys into Hamilton? I got into it a couple months ago and I am obsessed (Dont worry - TSOM is still my favorite). Obviously, it has a huge fandom, but it doesn't have a forum, like we do. My friend and I thought it would be a good idea to make one, so here is the link if anyone is interested. It would be great if you could create an account (if you like Hamilton, of course) since we currently have one member, who is the admin (me and my friend), and it gets a little lonely. If you do sign up, then thank you!

Hey friends! So, on the topic of other fandms, I have a question. Mainly for the admins and moderators. I have an NCIS forum (the-bull-pen), and have no idea what exactly I am doing. Do you have any tips or suggestions?

I started writing for two fandoms when I was younger (like, two decades younger...) which are only minimally active now, although the occasional fleeting inspiration still hits from time to time. I have lurked in a number of fandoms related to books I’ve loved, particularly fantasy and classics. I love writing and reading TSOM because outside the movie, I feel like there is such a strong/established ?headcanon (I don’t know if I’m using this term correctly) of who G and M are as people, which in turn lends itself to any number of different storylines and fascinating storytelling yet still retains a sense of familiarity I crave from the original TSOM.

Silver-White-Winters I feel like I should have better answers for you about being an admin but I don’t. This forum isn’t so big that it’s taken a lot of skill. Except this year I learned how to pre approve members to keep out spammers, after that started to be a problem. laurynvi you have so perfectly captured why TSOM is so great to write about, and why it works even when they are transported to more contemporary times.

I suppose it's more of a trial and error type of thing? Should be interesting to learn how and/or what to do while running a forum. I also agree that laurynvi captured perfectly why TSOM is so great to write about.
