Ok, this is super random... but if Maria was in a modern setting, do you think she would be interested in horoscopes/astrology? Georg is a definite no, but I feel like Maria would be more into that kind of thing. Which sign do you think she would identify the most with? Did they even have astrology in 1938?

Oh my gosh, this has been on my mind too! I literally spend my free time figuring out the astrological placements of the characters in TSOM because I'm insane. I don't know if Maria would be that interested, but I know that at some point in time, the Catholic Church did associate with astrology and even incorporated it into their calendar (or something like that, correct me if I'm wrong). In regards to what Maria would identify with, I think she would be a Sagittarius; outgoing, a little crazy, idealistic, but incredibly impatient. I think that Maria would be open to astrology and horoscopes, she seems to be very open-minded!

I agree, Maria has always been a Sagittarius in my mind. That’s cool that the Catholic Church put it in their calendar. I didn’t know that! The RL Maria was an Aquarius (Jan. 26) but the movie Maria is definitely not, lol. How about Georg and the other characters? What do you think about them? |

Ok, here is my list of what I think each character's signs are (I am totally geeking out right now):
Maria: Sagittarius
Georg: Scorpio
Liesl: Pisces
Friedrich: Aquarius
Louisa: Taurus
Kurt: Libra
Brigitta: Virgo
Marta: Cancer (I really don't know for sure though, she doesn't have that much material to judge off of)
Gretl: Gemini (again, I don't really know for sure)
Max: Leo
Elsa: Capricorn
Herr Zeller: Either Capricorn or Aries
Rolf: Gemini
Mother Abbess: Cancer

Also, just a weird thought about the characters:
I think Maria would be the type to believe in it but doesn't really talk about it unless anyone asks her, and Georg would be the type to say that he doesn't believe in "this silly nonsense" but secretly believes in it. Liesl would be the one who openly talks about it and saying that "oh, I think you're a ____," while Louisa rolls her eyes. Brigitta won't talk about it much but I think that if she writes stuff, she puts their sign in their character profiles.

This made me LOL. My kids are obsessed with Harry Potter. I role play these characters so often that I feel like I live at Hogwarts, but I've never considered crossing the fandom with TSOM. What house do you think everyone is in?? |

Also, the real Georg was an Aries and Maria was an Aquarius. Reading about those makes a lot more sense in regards to the characters, lol. |

However, not with Astrology, but rather Astronomy. Pope Gregory the Thirteenth, got together many astronomers of the time to correct the calendar from the Julian to what is now the Gregorian Calendar. Basically, the calendar wasn't compensating for a certain amount of days, and you ended up with Easter at the incorrect season. This is why we have Leap Years.
