laurynvi i'm about to post this list of blog posts on "my favorite shot" in TSOM, and someone wrote about this moment, "I just really love the look of fear/realization/longing that's so clear on both of their faces. Look at him reaching out for her hand unseen afraid she might just take it, but more afraid she might not. It's such a small moment in such an epic film, but like both of them to each other, it's hard not to fall in love." Yes, 100% this!! It's such a tremulous moment too, because just a second ago we see him against the backdrop of his grand and glorious party, so self-assured, adjusting his gloves, practically with a smirk on his face. And then we see just the two of them, who he is hanging in the moment depending on what she does... swoon. that scene with the smirk is probably the one that haunts me most in the whole film. I've written about it SO many times. Maybe I ascribe more cruelty to him than he really deserves.

I see it as a masculine flex... it's the first party he's hosted since Agathe's death (I assume), it's his show yet he feels out of place (wandering around the ballroom until he reaches the terrace), he sees Maria and Kurt maneuvering awkwardly along, and suddenly things fall into place. It's like a non-verbal equivalent of, "hold my drink, I'm all over this." (We should probably move this to movie discussions, haha...)

This is a random question, but where so we find the advent calendar stories if we wanted to read them? Are they on ff net, or on a different site/platform type thing?

If you click on the Advent Calendar link here from the post on Dec 18, and then click on the relevant white rectangle, you'll get through to each story.
I will be posting mine on FF.net sometime soon as well!
