For the purpose of storytelling, I have a question. If Georg were to be medically realeased from the Navy, why do you think that would be? How could he have been injured enough to be discharged?
I am writing my special project and need some help. Long story short, Georg is injured while deployed. The only question is how was he injured severely enough that he had to be disharged?
Please help.

Something as simple as a persistently bad back as a result of an injury could result in a person being medically discharged.
Also, if people lose the sight in one eye due to injury,it would compromise their binocular vision, so would make assessing distance difficult, looking at periscopes, etc problematic - not sure whether this might lead to discharge, though.
Crush injuries might give leg/arm pain and weakness, foot pain etc (this might explain why he is so crabby!)

Yes, absolutely I think loss of vision in one eye would qualify (in my mind it's probably the most tragic/romantic physical injury for military discharge...)
Most common reason for discharge are muscle/joint/bone injuries, I think - knee, back, etc.
Also, mental health - neurosis, PTSD... (that might make for an interesting turn of events...)

I've seen the mental health and PTSD make appearances in fanfictions, but if he had a big scar and eye patch over one eye, I think that could be interesting. I would imagine the first time seeing him without the eye patch would be rather intimate in a sort of shocking way. Not to mention the first time touching the scar. Depending on how it looks and if he still has his eye or not, it could be very interesting to write. I would be interested in how an eye patch would affect intimacy in all forms. And when would he show her? Or would it be an accident that she sees him without it before they're even engaged and he's furious that she did, but he apologizes later and it only brings them closer. Lot of ways to write that one. I hope someone does it, would be cool.

I had a friend of mine (she knows who she is), help me with some of the details of it. Georg will have a large scar, however, it remains to be seen on whether or not he keeps his eye.

Can someone PLEASE write a story on Georg showing Maria an eye injury? Maybe one that made him lose an eye?
Or, a story where Maria learns about all of his scars (mental and physical)?
I'm kind of invested in wanting to read more stories on the topic of Georg and his possible injuries.

You can lose the sight in an eye without there being any scars at all: if a shard of metal flies into the eye and destroys the structure inside, then someone can end up with no vision in that eye without there being any evidence of damage on the outside. It may become more obvious over time as the eye deteriorates, but this depends on how big the piece of metal was. Such an event could occur as the result of a explosion, and in the 1930s when surgical techniques were less sophisticated than they are now, people would commonly have been left with poor vision.

I think you’ve already found what you were looking for, but your question made me think of the book The Ragged Edge of Night. It’s a great read if you like WWII love stories 🙃. The main character, a former friar drafted by the nazis, gets discharged for a back injury from parachuting... though he’s really not so injured...

I have found what I'm looking for, but I am always looking for ideas to use in the future too! I will have to check that book out, it seems interesting.

Adulting is too hard *rolls eyes* 10/10 do not recommend being an adult. Jokes aside, it will be posted soon. I'm just terribly nervous about it.

I've been away for a bit and had so much catching up with this thread, can't wait to read your work Silver-White-Winters. You're very brave - the closest I ever got to this was writing about Georg having false teeth!

You're very brave - the closest I ever got to this was writing about Georg having false teeth! Thanks augiesannie! I hope you like it! As for chapter two, you might need some Kleenex. I feel like this might just be the most emotional story I've written, because of the feelings and emotions Georg is dealing with. There will be some trigger warnings, they're stated at the beginning of chapter two. Much Love xx
