When I write a story, I am usually pretty comfortable either making places up entirely, or taking the name of a place and then totally inventing what the place looks like to fit my story (I wrote a story that took place in Trieste and about the only thing my Trieste had in common with the real Trieste is the water). Luckily, I have been to Salzburg, not enough to know specific neighborhoods or streets, not to mention that I was not there in the 1930s, but I have some feel for the place. I've never been to Vienna and am writing something now that is set there in part. I was pretty much making things up but I'm getting intimidated by how well certain authors seem to know their settings. If there's anyone here who knows Vienna and would be willing to coach me a little bit, answer a few questions and read a few paragraphs, I would love that!

As you know, I've only tourist-ed through Vienna, but I'd be happy to take a look!
Also, for the record, you've furnished all of your setting in each of your stories so vividly I've never thought it lacked for anything! (Your story about Trieste is one of my favourites!)

I know absolutely nothing about Vienna, but I must say that I am ridiculously happy that you are writing a new story.

I know absolutely nothing about Vienna, but I must say that I am ridiculously happy that you are writing a new story. working on two of them (because one is turning out to be M rated, again, which always embarrasses me, so trying to do some of both.) I'm afraid nothing will be publishable for a while. And meanwhile when I write, I don't hang out here and I miss you guys!
