The other evening I was thinking of a familiar aristocratic figure with strikingly handsome good looks who cut a dash in a naval uniform, whose promising naval career was cut short through unexpected circumstances, and who had to leave his home country, rendering him stateless and penniless, and who had to set himself up in another country in order to bring up his family, and whose personality was at times gruff with a cutting sense of humour...I was thinking, of course, of Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, who died a few weeks ago.
I had been watching his elegant and moving funeral at St George's Chapel, Windsor (echoes of Mondsee Cathedral?), and had awoken in the night with these thoughts in my mind. It took me a few moments to realise that I had amalgamated images in my mind of him with the real Captain von Trapp AND our own Christopher Plummer who passed away two months ago, whose dates of birth are roughly concurrent. But there the similarity ends, as Phillip married the Queen of England, quite different from our Maria, except...the Queen's consistency, religious belief, steadfastness, etc, could be said to be...monastic?
Interesting!

This is such a smart observation indigoblue! I wish CP had gotten such a majestic sendoff! (the music in Phillip's funeral was amazing!)
