From time to time, I read TSOM stories on Archive of Their Own, and I see some people cross-post. What do people like and not like about AOTN? Who has posted there?

Personally, I love AO3!! Although seemingly much chaotic (and content wise, it IS), I find that it's much easier and much more convenient to seach for stories (and similar stories) there as compared to FF. I'm mostly on there for other fandoms -- especially because not all fandoms, especially newer ones, thrive on FF, just as not all fandoms are as "boom" on AO3 as they are on FF (like TSOM, but there are so many gems, still!) But as for the posting aspect... I haven't posted anything but I had intended to. The very untechy side of me finds it much more complicated than the document format of FF :')

I have destroyed this story multiple times, and I regret nothing.

I don't have my TSoM fanfic posted to AO3, but I do have other stuff there. It definitely feels like the Wild Wild West, both in terms of content and uploading. I so appreciate that they don't censor anything and trust their readers to judge appropriately and make their own choices. Adding personal tags to any story is also nice; I like that I'm able to add "trust issues" to a behemoth almost finished story of mine that is cross-posted, can't do that on ff.net. I also took advantage of AO3's liberablism and posted a much more explicit version of a chapter than I posted there. Always nice to give people choices, you can just not read something you don't like the sound. (It's like avoiding the romance section of a bookstore.) And really, strictly speaking, this is all probably illegal for copyright violations, let's not get our panties in a twist over this.
Initial posts on it are a pain the bum. You always have to copy-paste, whether rich text or HTML (and I can code HTML with the most mediocre of them, I grew up with GeoCities), instead of uploading and then editing a file. There's no capacity to export a file, so if you find a typo or need to ret-con something, you run the risk of destroying the chapter if you don't have it backed up. (Speaking of which, it IS that time of the month.) I think at least ten times, because of going back for reference to ensure continuity of a story, I've noticed it has mangled words, smushed them together, etc. I have typos all the time, don't create more for me. It is a little bit annoying. *insert sarcastic laugh here*
Ultimately, I think it is a better archive, but posting anything there can be so frustrating.

Haha, it's a clever acronym but a bit too subtle. I read quite a bit on AO3, though I don't have an account (I think mostly due to mere-exposure effect and being a creature of habit I've stuck with FF, and TSOM is more active!), but I've heard it's way easier to edit chapters and is overall more use-friendly once you get used to it, and also the interactive commenting feature is nice.
