I was thinking about indigoblue's recent story, created in response to a request from reverendcaptain and laurynvi, and it made me wonder: what stories would YOU like to see someone write? Is it "missing moments," like the dinner scene the night of Maria's return, or "telling the children?" Is it backstory on a minor character? Is it an AU about TSOM in modern times?

I always enjoy missing moments, whether with the proper canon or moments that would take place before the movie begins. Or following canon (maybe with missing moments) a third or half of the way, then changing one plot point and following it to the end conclusion. AUs are hit and miss: they have to make sense, and some absolutely get out of hand whilst some are perfect jewels...she says as she drafts something bordering on AU. But most of all, I love things with a good ol' serving of angst.

i always love a good "slow burn" au that has an engaging plot and stays true to the original characterizations. short collections of vignettes/prompt one-shots are also fun to read. just curious augiesannie , are you currently in the process of writing a new story?

I would really love to read a story about the dinner after Maria returned. I feel like it’s a pivotal moment that we don’t get to see.

I have been working back-and-forth on two stories for quite a long time. I can't really say when they will be ready for prime time though. I'm ambivalent about both of them. The good news is that I will bring my mixed feelings here first so you can help me resolve them!

My favorite are relationship stories where G&M are sorting out their feelings for one another.
I like missing moments too. And I like stories that keep everyone in character, though that is always colored by the opinions of the author of course.

I like reading Missing Moment stories and I like reading stories where the Anschluss didn't happen at all.

Also agree with reverendcaptain but ESPECIALLY on keeping people in character. I don’t like it when people write Georg as “sensitive man.” Oh, and I also like stories where they sort out their feelings - seems like I always have to write a long bit where M&G talk things out. In fact the one I am writing now is improbably long - they’re going to need a bathroom break if I don’t stop them soon - so I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes that kind of thing.

I think it's possible to write him that way--able to be more open with his emotions, etc.--BUT...If that's your end goal, then the character has to evolve and every single moment has to make sense in the context of the moment before and the moment after. So many risks, so many pitfalls. But mainly, yes, keep the characters in character. If that's not what you're going to do, why are you writing fanfiction rather your own fiction? Obviously there is room for how individuals interpret the characters' actions and personalities, but there comes a point where it crosses into wish fulfillment. Case in point, though not TSoM: I also do some writing in the Midsomer Murders fandom, and have come across a couple of fics that put Barnaby (the first) and Troy in a romantic relationship of sorts. Got about a paragraph in without realizing the plot, noped out immediately: I don't know these characters and I want to read about these characters. Entirely antithetical to their personalities. I very recently read a couple TSoM stories that gave me the same sense; I finished them (car crash and all that good jazz), but there was the same sense that I don't know these characters and don't understand why these names were slapped on them.

I would really love to read a story about the dinner after Maria returned. I feel like it’s a pivotal moment that we don’t get to see. I really like those stories where is slowly building passion by their confrontations and sparring matches. Generally it's rare in movies that you have strong and daring character like M and when you mix that with G who likes to be in command for me it's fabulous.

I'd love to see a story with missing moments, especially G's thoughts when M left. How did the conversation with Elsa go? Did he even think about contacting the Abbey? Did he write to her? I also like to read about their feelings, thoughts and what they were going through straight after the Laendler, as that seems to be the pivotal moment for them.
In all honesty though, you all have so much talent that I love reading anything you all write 😊

But most of all, I love things with a good ol' serving of angst. haha, after reading those wonderful stories in the Advent calendar, I felt like I had to start publishing something, and as I am still ambivalent about the dark, angsty, mature one I've been working on, I decided to start with the shorter and sweeter AU story that I was holding off on for fear it - yes, wait for it! - makes no sense. Now what should I do?

If you're truly ambivalent about the dark one, then go with your gut and work out kinks in the shorter, happier one. At the very least, it should satisfy the itch to be putting something out there for people to read. My two dead presidents...

I'm on for the shorter, sweeter moments, although a good bit of angst doesn't go amiss...
