Hello everyone, I have recently updated my latest story 'The Manual of Engagement'. If you haven't read it, here's the link if you're interested: The Manual of Engagement
In the reviews for Chapter 5, people asked me to post the M rated chapter for my next installment as I asked wrote two versions and asked what they'd rather read, but it got me wondering how you decided to write something a little more... Mature? And did it impact your story of set it on a different course to what you'd originally planned? Or, do you think it actually hindered the rest of the story? I know this has been covered, but do you think Georg and Maria waited for their wedding night? I'm not just talking about the consummation, I'm referring to any sort of s*xual contact. I know it's set in the 1930's, but even then, they're such a passionate couple that I can't imagine that they did absolutely nothing... What do you think?

I am just reading a book about a real group of aristocratic people in the twenties and thirties, and it's a question of what they HAVEN'T done with whom!

I figured that this would be the perfect thread to pose my question for the next chapter of My Maria (is it the right thread for it?). So on the subject of whether or not to write and/or post M content, I have one question. When is something too mature to post?
If any of you have read the A Court of Thorns And Roses series, specifically chapter 55 of the second book, you know that is where I got inspiration for the last chapter that I wrote (the ah.. paint on the table scene). My inspiration for the next chapter is the second half of chapter 55 and the bedroom scene. It's kind of explicit, but not overly so (at least not in my personal opinion). Anyway. My question is whether or not you would be comfortable with content that's slightly more steamy/intense than the last chapter? Since the last update, I have been toying with whether or not I should write and post something that's more intense than I normally write. The reason being that I don't want to write something that my readers won't like.
I just want your feedback on this question because I value the opinions/thought you guys have.
Also, my apologies if this isn't the correct thread to put this in.

Well, Silver-White-Winters, we all have different tastes so I don't think you can make everyone happy. What is too mature for one person is too tame for another! That's what I have gleaned from reviews of my M writing. I don't think there is anything objectively "too" mature unless it is violent or truly disgusting. Just my two cents.

I have destroyed this story multiple times, and I regret nothing.

So on the subject of whether or not to write and/or post M content, I have one question. When is something too mature to post? Currently trying to find that boundary, too, though I think I'm struggling with another aspect as well. It sounds almost like you're trying to find the point where something moves from being just steamy to erotica, though I don't want to put words in your mouth. I think augiesannie is correct, it is always going to be subjective. And so long as it's tasteful, which is also subjective, but in a different way. Got a couple stories I'm thinking of...I still need my brain dunked in bleach, thank you very much. Also, I think the context is very important, i.e., laying the groundwork vs. something coming out of absolutely nowhere. What might make total sense in one story where the former has been done might transform into "oh my god, I did not need to read that" in another if it just drops out of the sky. I have a plot point in what I'm currently writing that I can't imagine the story without, now--this is why I sarcastically told my boss I shouldn't be allowed to roll pasta, it's such a soothing task where you can just stand and daydream--laying certain foundations already, but the scene itself doesn't need to be included. The fact that the opening is going to be included, characters will remember and reference it, etc., is enough. (And my plot is already way over quota on the gratuitious pain and suffering.) Maybe explore a route like that if you're really uncertain?
