Jumping on the bed, singing on the top of their lungs... Maria brings the party. I always loved the look of expectation on the children's faces at this point, so entertained and fascinated by this woman. At one point in the song, Maria says, "Together!" wanting the children to sing, too. But they don't. I never really noticed before that they don't. Because, as we will later find out, they don't know how to sing. Perhaps they are more about how kind and fun she is than they are the idea of singing at this point. Here is where you say something more brilliant than anything I just said... Oh, and for fun, give them all a thought bubble.

and I know I said I would do this on Monday... my family has entered what I call hell week; my husband and two children all have birthdays. And for reasons that stump me, everyone thinks the first week in Nov. is a good time to hold conferences and other such events and without thinking I promise to bake for parties and school meetings and frankly, I'm my own worst enemy.
What I'm trying to say is I blew it but I knew I would so...

No problem, Lemacd! It's just so nice to have you back, posting again!
I remember Debbie Turner (?) (Marta) saying a few years ago, that when she is lying in bed next to Maria, you can see her mouthing the words to My Favourite Things when Maria is singing solo...even though she isn't meant to know the words!

Zero stress, lemacd! It doesn't have to be a scheduled thing if that is too hard for you, or if it makes you feel bad when life gets in the way and it can't happen. Just post when you can, and we'll all jump in whenever that is. Good luck with bday week!
The kids are loving this! Ordinarily they'd be alone in their rooms trying to not be scared by the storm, but instead they are watching this person (who is not at all what anyone expected) be so completely loving and understanding and entertaining and fun. Maria looks a little overwhelmed, but just for this one moment. I think she is thinking - how in the world am I going to be able to keep up with filling all of the voids in these children's lives until September. Or maybe that is too deep and she is actually just thinking - what's the start of the next verse again?
Other random thoughts:
What's Friedrich looking at? Wouldn't summer be too hot for long sleeve pajamas? Why is this now a Christmas song?

Also, I forgot to mention in my last post, I really like that she touches each of kids at some point during this scene. I like that she picked up Gretl and hugged her to start out the scene. I'm sure that helped them form a connection with her since these kids are all affection starved.

two down and one more birthday to go, and it's the low maintenance child so I think I'm home free. The question of how this became a Christmas song has never been adequately answered. I honestly don't care that it is, doesn't bother me but it is weird. Never considered the point about the long sleeve winter sleepwear. Interesting... I guess they couldn't very well be dancing around in baby doll jimjams but wouldn't that make for an interesting moment when the Captain interrupts. He would undoubtedly forget what he was angry about . And well, we wouldn't have to ask what Friedrich is looking at either...

I also think they look so much younger in this photo, especially heather and angela... I believe this was one of the first scenes they filmed and they all must have changed over the duration of filming.

I was just thinking that too, but how long was the filming period? I thought it was just the summer months - say 3 months. They do seem to grow up VERY quickly - especially Heather. I seem to remember Kym gets quite porky by the end!

lemacd I am laughing so hard at your pajamas retort. reverendcaptain, do you think that Maria may also have been as starved for hugs as the children? I bet there wasn't a lot of hugging in the Abbey.

lemacd I am laughing so hard at your pajamas retort. reverendcaptain , do you think that Maria may also have been as starved for hugs as the children? I bet there wasn't a lot of hugging in the Abbey. Absolutely. Her parents died when she was young, her uncle wasn't much of a caregiver, she went to school and then the abbey. I'm guessing that she recognizes a child that needs a hug better than most. She probably does enjoy the closeness just as much as the kids do. Her motivation to give them playtime may also be from her own past that was lacking in freetime to do as she wished.

I don't know if you have commented on it but during the song, right after her saying: "See what fun it is?" The next verse is sung with uncontrolled enthusiasm, it seems that she goes into an ecstasy of joy when she sees that everything is finally going great with the children (she even looks up). Does anyone else know what i'm talking about?

Not sure where i should ask this but since this is the most appropriate screencap...🙏 Is the first time I see this behind the scenes pic, my question: is this Chris leaning over the bed?? 👉👉👀 pin.it/26hJziX

But let's dream on shall we?
