This is something I’ve always sort of wondered about. Was there ever much of a friendship between these two great ladies or were they simply amicable co stars? Other than a brief tribute on her death and a follow up comment after Chris mentioned her in an interview, Julie never mentioned her much. Just wondering if anyone had any other insight as it’s something I’ve always been curious about.

I have never read anything to suggest that they were particular friends. But as Julie was in most scenes in the film, and then had her small daughter to attend to at her hotel in the evenings, I suspect they had very little time to get to know each other. I get the impression that Elsa wasn't there for very long either, because she is in fewer scenes, and had her own family to go home to, so in a way they were at different stages of life (Julie was ?27 and Eleanor ?40ish).

I read somewhere (though I can't remember where now) that the British cast/crew hung out with each other and the American cast/crew hung out with each other. Not that anyone disliked the others, it was just how the social circles ended up. Maybe this contributed too? Although, I have to agree with Indigo, being in almost every scene plus taking care of a baby likely gave Julie zero time to socialize with anyone.

I've been thinking about this more. I read (I think in Forever Liesl?) that Julie wasn't particularly close to anyone on the set. She was kind to everyone, and was entertaining to the kids between takes, but that she was there to make a great movie, not make friends. Many cast members remained life long friends after the filming ended and I don't think she fit in that category with anyone.

No, I think her marriage was a bit rocky at the time (?), and with a toddler, life must have been hectic to say the least.
