Of all the zillions of things I saw online yesterday for JA's birthday, this was one of the things I liked the most, even though the special effects are primitive by today's standards! Click here to see them face off.

So much as I love Audrey Hepburn and her her performance in My Fair Lady, I'd give a lot to be able to go back in time and see Julie's Elisa Doolittle. With all her sense of humor and wit and fabulous voice, it must have been a wonderful experience!
Thanks for sharing this, Anne :-)

i've always seen it floating around on youtube but never got around to watching. it was fun. i'm with you, tranquility... i so wish they filmed the broadway show back then, but they didn't. you can catch her doing bits on ed sullivan or whatever, but it's just a tease.

Being a TSOM fan has definitely given me a new appreciation for JA. She seemed kind of square, of course, when I was growing up. But now I've read her memoir, and seen so many clips of her as a sweet young actress and . . . yeah. I also wish we could see her original MFL or Camelot. One of our members got me into this Julia Andrews forum, which I don't visit often, but I do enjoy it and definitely understand why people are so enamored of her!

Audrey Hepburn was good as Eliza, but watching her in this clip shows Julie has so much more gusto and depth of character that I think she would win hands down in a competition for the role. Likewise, Anne, I can't help admiring her both for her personal qualities and talent.

:-) This brought tears to my eyes... She is wonderful, and very brave actually, being able to face the fact that she doesn't have the voice she had once. And all this in front of a public (that is wonderful, anyways).

Wonderful to see not one, but two consummate performers on stage together - a real treat. Thanks, Lemacd!

Sadly my degree of separation from Julie is just one---I had surgery by the same doctor that robbed her of her voice. I often get the fleeting thought of wishing it had been me rather than her!

Not sure, she says she had no nodes or anything. I had polyps removed, and a deviated septum repair.

Yes, Teresa Stratas. I don't believe she ever sang again, either.
