To all of my SOM friends in Britain, my condolences on the passing of your Queen. She was admired by so many for so long. It was sad news to hear.

Us Brits are obviously gutted, as are the rest of the commonwealth, I'm sure. Such a sad day! I took the first train out of London to go back home - it is manic there at the moment.

Thank you, she has been a steadfast exemplar to the country and the world, which has smoothed the path over many a wrinkle on the way. There are so many unimpressive people around in public life at present, she always managed to shine above them all like a guiding light. In fact, she has been there for the whole of many of our lives, and it will be odd to be without her, presiding over us in the background.

My condolences too, to all British here and everyone who admire the Queen. Such a great leader so committed with her country.
To keep the link of our passion, I now remember some occasions (2010 the most recent if I am not wrong, but also in the 60s) in which his Majesty and Plummer coincided. It would have been shocking to see these two figures together!

I have a neighbor who is originally from England, and when I saw her I told her I was sorry to hear about the Queen, and her response was "The Queen is dead. Long live the King."
I found this response to be very harsh, and assumed maybe she didn't like the Queen, but I don't know her that well so I didn't question her on it. I have since had 2 other people say the same thing to me! This must be the appropriate response??
How are things going over there in the UK? Is it still madness?

I suppose it is to do with the thousand year-old history, that continuity is essential; when one monarch dies, one swears allegiance to the next legitimate heir. It must seem odd, but I suppose it means one is at heart a monarchist, and as it is dangerous to have a gap (because of rivalries etc), one gets behind the rightful heir without a pause.
You may have seen some of the remarkable coverage on TV, and the huge support from the public. I believe 62% of the UK population are in favour of the monarchy, but on days like these, you might think it was everyone! Already the queue of people wanting to pay their respects to the Queen lying in state is 3 miles long, and there are 4 days to go. Her state funeral on Monday will be a very moving affair. Interesting to see the effect it has on the current movement of Scotland to gain independence (there was a lot of support for her there as she spent a lot of time there).
And yes, I'm told central London has been at a standstill for two days already! The guardsmen have been practicing on the roads at night, so chaos all around.
