Wow! 40 previously unreleased tracks? What could they even be?
I will definitely listen to this. Though, the original soundtrack is so perfect, I'm afraid my reaction is going to be "this sounds wrong". Who knows, I might end up with a new favorite version of something.
Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for posting this! omk.craftrecordings.com/release/the-sound-of-music/If you take a look at the record label's website for the upcoming album and click "Press" you can see the tracklist. Most of the previously unreleased songs appear to be background instrumental tracks, but it also looks like they'll be releasing playback recordings: "Another intriguing addition comes from a selection of “playback” recordings, which were given to actors for lip-synch matching. “On set, the tracks were played over speakers as the cameras rolled, with the actors singing to their own recordings. The songs would then be enhanced for the finished film, months later, with sound effects and dialogue added as needed. In some cases, the vocals and orchestra recordings remain unchanged, while in other instances one, the other, or both might be altered entirely. There are also occasions where small sections were tweaked after filming. Careful listeners, and especially those intimately familiar with the original album and film, will enjoy detecting these variations.”

Apparently they have included CP's own voice in Edelweiss. I'll be listening to it!
I should think the reason for releasing this on Dec 1 is to catch the Christmas market.

So the SoM dropped the Alternate take of Something Good, with CP today. Who all has had a listen?

Oh when this dropped it made my day. The little Chris giggle with "or childhood" had me grinning ear to ear. I pre-ordered my set in September, even the green vinyls ! December 1 can't come soon enough.

I am torn between whether they should have kept his original recordings or gone for the ones with Bill Lee singing his part!
Somehow I love the way this recording portrays him as a so vulnerable as you can hear he is nervous, and far from perfect next to Julie.
But it is that role reversal which is so endearing - compare the image he portrays when they first meet, as he crashes open the ballroom doors, with the feeling you get of him here...and so touching that Julie is the one in calm command, and he is playing 'catch up'. It's as though they have at last found their levels with each other.

I love the vulnerability in his voice too - Edelweiss has been making the rounds on the internet for a while now, and I think it's beautiful. My two cents is that the production team really never intended to have his voice stand simply because they didn't invest a lot in Chris' singing. I mean, in 1974 he won a Tony for best actor in a musical for the 1973 run of Cyrano. He has such a lovely voice in that recording (it's on Apple Music if you haven't heard it before) with a good deal of command and power. Now, when I hear the new tracks drop for SoM it's the same voice, just without some degree of training - it's hesitant and shy in 1964, and 8 years later, it's KABOOM!

I know he did have voice lessons during TSOM, but no matter how many he had, there was no way he could equal someone who is both a naturally gifted singer, and has been singing her whole life. Julie is just too good, and has spent too many years perfecting her voice. When they are singing together, she can carry him, but when he is singing alone, the difference is very noticeable.
I love that this is out there though!

I see why they ended up replacing him with Bill Lee -- like reverendcaptain said, Bill was better in terms of vocal training. I think I prefer Chris by a hair though because the rawness and vulnerability of his voice matches the tone of the scene more. He kind of sounds more natural if that makes sense? I do think it's kind of jarring to hear that "rawness" in contrast with how polished Julie's voice sounds lol.

I don't even see a green vinyl option. I do see the 3LP option, which I am tempted by because I listen to a lot of LPs. But I really like the look of that book that comes with the 5 disc set. Maybe there are some never before seen pics in there?? It is over $100 though, and also sold out. Hmm. I might need to wait on some reviews.

I wonder if all the R&H advertising of late has set off a lot of shopping? EEEK so excited
