A lot of people know that I'm obsessed with TSOM and my friends tease me about it because I can literally recite the movie to them But no one knows I write fanfic, at least not yet. I'll probably tell my younger sister when she gets a little older because I have definitely passed my love of TSOM down to her and I think she would appreciate the fanfic. I think it's hilarious that this is the one "secret" I keep from my parents because most teenagers are secretly partying, etc. or have crazy secrets but mine is just that I love reading/writing TSOM fanfic. TSOM, of all things. Lol

i can see it now... "darling, you're on the computer all hours of the day, you shut down the browser when we come in the room... your father and i are worried that you're getting mixed up with strangers on the internet. talk to us!" "erhm... well, you're kinda right. but it's not what you think."

Yes, their are a lot worse things you could be hiding from your parents. When I was your age I use to write stories too, but I kept them in a notebook and hid that in my room, lol, because we didn't have the Internet yet.

I can definitely relate, bloghey131313 ! When I first watched TSOM and told people that I liked it, the reaction from my friends was something along the lines of, "What? Really? The Sound of Music? YOU?" Safe to say me irl is not exactly the type of person who watches/obsesses over movies of this nature... Although one of my closest friends loves Michael Fassbender and every once in a while I'll send her a pic of CP like "SEE. SAME FACE, BUT BETTER" As for the partying, I'm a fresher in university and too many rough nights out should be the reason I never seem to get much work done, however easy access to a vast amount of TSOM fanfic is much closer to why that is!

The internet has noticed, so I don't get how filmmakers and casting people haven't! But I'm sure there's some parallel universe out there where CP plays Magneto (lol, can you imagine) instead of Ian McKellen...

I believe a lot of people know that I love the Sound of Music, but I don't believe they understand just how deep my obsession with this movie runs. It's a long story really, but I have loved this movie for years and it's not exactly a movie my friends all know and enjoy (though one of them says she likes it, she certainly doesn't love it). In fact, I've been told to quote "get a life" just because I was even reading fan fiction. There is only one friend I know that actually writes fan fiction, though we are not into the same fandoms (she writes about things that are more popular, which makes it okay with nearly everyone she tells). I don't tell anyone else that I write fan fictions and none of them read it. I don't even share my original works with anyone. I don't have a significant other or anyone who truly appreciates this movie or fan fiction as much as I do. I suppose that's one of the main reasons I wanted to join the ProBoards; it's really the only place I can talk about this movie or anything related to it without someone rolling their eyes or telling me to shut up already (yes, that has actually happened before). This should shed some light on why I'm still hesitant to post any of my works anywhere; I'm almost always criticized for it. All of you have been lovely though, and I truly appreciate every single one of you for all of the encouragement thus far!

I've been part of one fandom or another for probably the last 13 years at least. I can safely say that this one seems to contain the nicest most supportive people. So whilst I can understand your nervousness GothicLover146 I know that if you post your stories ( which I wish you would) you'll get nothing but support and encouragement. I'm probably one of the more senior (age wise!) members of this group and I have real difficulty opening up about my writing or vids to anyone at home. My hubby once laughed at me for making videos and just yesterday my mum was sitting at my desk and saw a picture I'd printed off (for a drawing) of Matthew MacFadyen from Ripper street and said "Oh, you're into him now are you!" Just the way she said it made me feel guilty and embarrassed. I've spent most of the last week at the laptop writing my story and I'm really dreading my hubby asking what I'm doing. If I tell him I know he'll just sit there with a stupid smug grin on his face. i suppose what I'm just saying is that I'm in my 40's and don't truly feel like I can ever just be "me" anywhere other than in forums like this.

one of those mind blowing kinds of things... do you think the two of them have ever met? They actually have met at the Oscars roundtable in 2012! Unless one of them is photoshopped into the picture. lol ...no they were together in these interviews as well for the roundtable. And while I agree that they look like one another in certain pictures, I never found Michael Fassbender attractive or appealing. In the x-men movies (not my genre at all by the way), I always looked at Hugh Jackman, never at Fassbender. haha Fassbender also got the nickname "the shark" by his fans, because of his teeth. Type in "michael fassbender the shark" in Google Images and you'll see what I mean. Alas I never crushed on Fassbender, while I do have a massive crush on Mr. Plummer in his younger years. That said I wouldn't mind seeing them both in a movie as e.g. father and son, as they're both terrific actors.

Yes, he really was there, that is a glorious photo by the way. Here is a link to an article about that roundtable, and youtube has videos. Very interesting discussions amongst the actors, if you've got the time to watch.

I believe I skipped the dormant stage all together and just stopped telling people. I love the movie and fan fiction so much that I won't let anyone's opinion dictate what I should and should not watch/write. I have been a massive fan girl for almost 7 years now, and I don't believe it will ever change. You ladies are all so very nice and I really gain confidence (I swear that was unintentional) when I talk to all of you. I have begun to look back over some of my old SOM fan fiction that I had been too nervous to share before and started polishing it up. I promise, I will begin posting my fan fiction as soon as it is (at least for me) good enough to share.

LOL stage 4 here too: We had friends meet us here for drinks before going to dinner last night. On the table was my copy of TSOM FAQ. Not only did one of them notice, but she asked if I'd written it and was not in the least bit surprised when I told her I'd been making a list of the errors I'd found. ;-)

Finding people who feel the way I do about this movie, and the stories I read, write and review, has been a true bright spot in my life.

I'm a very shy person by nature, so I tend to keep a lot of things private, even to close friends. I tend not to get caught up in celebrities, but I was obsessed with Paul Newman at one stage. I just admired him very much for the charity work, his film career etc... One thing I will never forget is when he passed away in 2008, one of my close friends sent me a text of condolence. I thought it was sweet because I was fairly devastated. I still have friends send me pictures etc...in fact one friend posted a picture of him on my FB page this morning.
I didn't even divulge my movie star crush on CP when we were having a conversation in the office about it on Friday. Then one of my closest friends happened to open her big mouth and tell everyone that I crush on old blokes. A few stammered explanations and some CP Googling showed them what she was talking about.

Oh Paul Newman... you know how some people say something is "better than sex"? I remember my mom used to say it was "better than Paul Newman ". The first time I watched 'Cat in a Hot Tin Roof' I knew exactly what she meant... slurpy.

Oh, I remember back when the big question was "who is better looking, Paul Newman or Robert Redford"? For me it was never even a consideration---and the fact that Mr. Newman aged so very well while Redford looks--to put it crudely--'ridden hard and put away wet', well...

My grandmother's choice was Robert Redford. One of the few times I saw her idle during the daylight hours was when Indecent Proposal (of all movies!) came on TV one afternoon. She kept passing through the room very slowly, and would pause with her elbows resting on the back of her recliner and eyes glued to the screen whenever he was in the scene.
Then one weekend, lots of years ago, she asked me over to her house for movie night. She had seen A Walk in The Clouds advertised as the Sunday night movie on one channel or another, and thought it might be something we'd like. As we watched it, my 70-something year old gramma kept asking, "What's his name again?"
"Keanu Reeves," I'd say.
She asked once more, and I answered once more, and she was quiet for a few moments. Then:
"You know, Robert Redford is getting a little old..."
Still makes me laugh.

I was watching TSOM one time and my grandmother said, "That Christopher Plummer is a good looking fellow." I almost choked on what I was eating because she said what I was thinking.

Mr. Plummer, that is. Not my son. Though I think he's pretty cute ;-)

Oh yeah... that was very nice. You know, Gary Cooper and I have been known to watch the sunrise together. He really is my fave but in the immortal words of my grandmother, "that Paul Newman can park his shoes under my bed any time."
Sigh. I love CP I really do. But Paul...
