When I start fangirling about something - or someone I have the tendency on going to the max. Does that make sense?
As you might know, I live in Europe. This could be a good thing, but also a bad thing.. For a fangirl that is. It is a good thing because, like for TSOM, I can travel to Austria and visit Salzburg.. I could be there in one day (single car, without caravan.. with it, it'd take me two days).. I haven't been there yet, but my parents have been talking about it.. They have no idea what I want to do once I get there.. I want to visit those film locations!
But, the bad thing.. There's no way I can walk up to a theatre or a bookstore to get some pictures or autographs with those famous actors.. Basically because I live on the other side of the globe. In this case, CP and Julie.. So, what's the best thing to do when you want those autographs as badly as I do? Fan mail! I'm not an expert when it comes to fan mail, I only sent out a request once (Richard Armitage, yum! And I got my signed picture of him!), but there's this awsome website that provides fans like us with fanmail addresses and feedback of those who have succeeded (or not).
Unfortunately, in order to actually get your self addressed envelope with your signed picture back, you have to insert International Reply Coupons. My country hasn't been selling those for ten years. Yay. So now a fellow musical fan from the USA is sending me some dollars for me to enclose when I send out my letters of request. Pathetic, right?
Now, the problem is: CP seems to be very generous, he signs your pictures and returns them in a few months. But, it is said that Julie doesn't sign anymore, orat least: no copyrighted materials! Some say she does sign her books, some dvd covers and pictures that have been pre-signed by another actor. I don't know what to do! I have some TSOM pictures printed out (I wanted to send those to CP first, and then forward them to Julie (or some of those pictures, not all of them.. if things go wrong, I don't want to lose them all!)), but I also wanted to include my TSOM dvd cover for CP and Julie to sign! But what if she doesn't reply? I'm a real pain when it comes to my dvd treasures, I want it all neat with dvd covers..
Not that TSOM dvds are expensive nowadays.. Mine cost € 8. But still, I'm not planning on buying a second copy, because of the possibility that Julie might not reply, and I lose my dvd cover.. I don't have any of her books (sadly), and I'm quite a coward I think, when it comes to sending out my dvd cover and those pictures with CP's autographs on it.
Do you have any experience on this matter, or do you have some advice for me?

I don't think you would lose it! Her sectery would send it back, heard she have done that before with pictures and a letter attached with a message that Jukie couldn't sign it.
She does or did sign books, but yeah can ou follow you there, would love to get something signed in person, but also live on the wrong site of the world for that.

Julie used to sign stuff. I sent fan mail when she was in Victor/Victoria on Broadway and I got 2 letters back. The first with a letter from her secretary with a generic photo and signature and the second with a personalised message and signature on a photo.
She wasn't signing anything when I met her last year. There was the official photographer though and you couldn't take anything in when you went to see her. If you had brought her anything, you had to give it to one of her aids who would take it to her dressing room afterwards. You even had to leave your handbag with a security guard.
I think I was very lucky getting my autographs considering she isn't signing anymore

A bit late on this, but lisab1991 , check out this forum: www.fanmail.biz/mboard/ They answer pretty much all of your questions both general and specific right down to the celebrity you want to chase after. On another note, I'm proud to say that I have autographs from these celebrities: Hayley Westenra (classical crossover singer from New Zealand), Jayma Mays (actress from Glee), and Joshua Bell (classical violinist). The first 2 are personalized autographs and the last is just his autograph I would love to get an autograph from Julie Andrews but if I were to miraculously run into her, I would feel both embarrassed and guilty to ask for it because she would probably think that I'm just another annoying fangirl who is interrupting whatever she's doing

I have 2 autographs from her from fan mail I sent to her in 1996 when she was in Victor/Victoria on Broadway. While one of then may be an autograph stamp, the second one definitely wasn't as it was personalised (i.e. to Christine). I think I posted a photo of it somewhere here on pro boards (under Julie memorabilia I think). Edit: Obviously I don't re-read the posts above in this thread as I just said the same thing over a year ago. whoops!! Oh well... you get to hear me say is all again!

I just got a google alert about CP fanmail. I have no idea if this is legit but the site claims that people who write to him at his Connecticut address will eventually get a signed (possibly stamped) photo in return. Word is that he won't sign anything TSOM but he will sign other things you send. And some people have gotten personalized signatures. One person said that she wrote an extra-nice letter, and his assistant wrote back to say he appreciated it and in that case he DID sign something TSOM related (a Laendler still).

Julie still signs at book launches but it's always for limited time and mostly for children now. Perhaps she will sign some when her sequel to Hime comes out?
Very cool about Mr. Plummer though.

I have heard other people say they sent him TSOM stuff and he did sign them. With a lot of things I think if you're nice enough about it then people will be nice back.

I've gotten spoiled, living in Nashville, TN, where so many country music stars live. On the whole, most of them are very kind and gracious, don't mind being recognized when out in public, and are usually happy to give an autograph and/or pose for a picture. CMA Fest is coming up next week, and a lot of the stars will be in town doing meet-and-greets. This is my favorite time of year!
Now, if we could somehow get Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer to come to Nashville.....

CP came to my hometown in 2011 as part of a classical music festival (he didn't sing btw) that I volunteered for. I think he was reading Shakespeare with chamber music as accompaniment. Now, I don't know why I didn't volunteer for that concert not did I watch it but I wish I went!! And I think he was autographing copies of his then newly released memoir at the end of the show!

If she has arthritis bad enough to wear the pain patches we saw on her wrist in the TMC festival photos, that is probably why she no longer signs autographs.

Have to add, I learned last night that I won a meet-and-greet with Brenda Lee next Saturday during CMA Fest! And I'll be seeing Lynn Anderson at several things during the week, as well as former Statler Brother Jimmy Fortune! Please don't tell me I'm the only one who knows who they are!!!! I love the country legends - couldn't care less about Taylor, Carrie, Jason, FLG, etc.!

LOL I know who they are, Paula. "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" was one of my favorite songs back in the day and my grandma bought me Lynn's 8 track. Yeah, I said an 8 track. yikes.

Lynn would be SO impressed!!!! A couple of years ago, after Lynn had appeared on a show at the Ryman Auditorium, someone stopped her outside the back door and had an 8-track tape for her to sign, as well as a whole stack of LP record albums! You and I are Facebook friends, so you most likely know what a massive Lynn Anderson fan I am! I'll send you a PM on Facebook with a link to the pictures I took that night - especially the one of Lynn autographing the 8-track tape! I like the way you think, Denise. And we KNOW you and I are in agreement on Christopher Plummer!

I HATE that they retired, but am so happy Jimmy went solo! Are you on Facebook, Jamie? If so, please send me a friend request! I've got BUNCHES of pictures of various country stars, and will probably have a lot more after this week! And at some point, when/if I get around to it, I'm going to try to scan some of my pre-digital pictures, which I have an unbelievable amount of, and post them!
