My husband asked what I was doing on the computer. "Writing"
"Writing what?"
"A story"
"About what?"
"Scenes that don't appear in a movie to fill out the timeline"
"Are you writing fanfiction? What movie"
I gave him a blank look.
He just rolled his eyes and went back to Candy Crush.

Classic!! My husband is on holidays to the new year so I can't sneak off to the computer or even have my writing pad around. It would prompt too many questions. I'm now writing my latest story in the notes app on my iPhone (no questions there as I'm always on my phone).

Caught!! My husband came up behind me this morning while I was catching up with all the awesomeness that you guys had posted over night and asked "are you blogging about the sound of music?" I was like "ummmm...." I think he was mildly disgusted!!!

you know, there is a cycle husbands have to go through... first there is disgust. then there is denial. after that they enter a mocking phase. that doesn't last long as mocking isn't good for husbands for any reason and the smart ones figure that out quick. then comes acceptance. you know you've reached this stage when your husband says something like, "hey, i heard there's a new movie starring Christopher Plummer. How about I babysit so you can go see it?" or you hear them humming 'my favorite things' in the shower.
warning: sometimes the mocking stage is disguised as acceptance.

^^^ That. My husband realized quickly that he was reaping the benefit of my little mid-life crisis/obsession. He still mocks, but that is just our way.

Actually, my husband is just one big tease really. I think he still thinks I'm a little strange with my JA obsession and he was so good when I got to meet her. He didn't come along to the performance (I went with my parents) but I rang him the moment I had finished with meeting JA and he was just so pleased for me that I had had that experience as he knew how much it meant to me (and he patiently listened for days and days afterwards as I raved how good it was and re-lived every detail over and over to him).
But I do think he gets a bit fed up with my constant updates to how many weeks/days it has been since I met JA so he started his own count since he met a semi-famous footballer (who just happens the be the dad of one of my daughter's friends) just to annoy me back!

Am I the only one who have husband who lives in total ignorance of my "little" obsession with TSOM fan fic reading/writing? ? I still hide it from him, as I'm not sure how he'll react to be spending so much time on it... I always have a back up website that I change to when I see/hear him coming... ex facebook Not sure why I hide it... :/ (does that makes me a "bad" wife???)

Mine knows that I've been reading fanfiction, but I hide that I've started writing it as if he finds out, he'll want to read it and then ALL the real mocking will begin. No.... Let's just keep it a secret between all of us on this forum

Thank God he hasn't asked to read any of it. My kids have, and I let my son read the first chapter of my first story, but that's it.

oh, it started in secret... but eventually i just told him. that's a long story. he asked to read stuff. i said no. then i gave him a few chapters of my 'lost in you' story and he mentioned all the typos. said nothing else. and the way he pointed out the typos really irritate me. so then i said, 'ok, thanks... you've been most helpful' and under breath 'in helping me decide to never show you another chapter.' then he wanted to read more so i caved... he got as far as chapter 8.
and that was months ago. since then, its just about the movie. and he's learned to let it ride. "happy wife, happy life" is a real thing.

Ok I finally told my husband I've been writing. He, yet again, asked what we do on the forum so I told him about all the writing prompts (ok so I didn't go as far as telling him about ff.net but little steps). And guess what? He didn't care!!!! He was even pleased when I told him how much I was enjoying writing!!!! He didn't even ask to read any of it (that had been my greatest fear). Actually he was half asleep as it is about 11pm here so I picked a good time. Phew.... It feels like a bit weight off my back

half asleep? is he going to remember when he's fully awake? half asleep for my husband = coma. that's great, though! he likes to see you happy... this is a very good thing.

Good for you @charleybec! It makes you happy so why not tell him. My husband knows I'm on here and reading FF because I have my notebook lying everywhere. As for writing he sometimes asks what I'm doing and has a peak now and then. I told him he could read it and he said he might do it. He knows about my love for FF. I even met a few people from FF and he joined me. you know, there is a cycle husbands have to go through... first there is disgust. then there is denial. after that they enter a mocking phase. that doesn't last long as mocking isn't good for husbands for any reason and the smart ones figure that out quick. then comes acceptance. you know you've reached this stage when your husband says something like, "hey, i heard there's a new movie starring Christopher Plummer. How about I babysit so you can go see it?" or you hear them humming 'my favorite things' in the shower. warning: sometimes the mocking stage is disguised as acceptance. hhmmmm is that what it is? Maybe he's mocking the last few weeks because I sent to much time on here....but I love it so I won't let him mocking bother me LOL.

Update time: HE NOW KNOWS EVERYTHING!!!!!! Oh help!!!
So what happened was I ditched doing study last night as I had been working all day (and who really wants to study on a Saturday night right?) instead, I completely engrossed myself in reading "An accidental governess" (totally awesome, I don't know why I had never read it before) and ignored him for the whole night.
So finally as we were heading off to bed, he asks me what I had been reading. So I told him (ok that was fine). Then he says... "You and your fan fiction, next thing you are going to be telling me is that you are writing it too!" I freeze and go as red as Maria after the Laendler... (I think "Oh help" plus a few more words that I won't say here). "You are writing it!!!" He exclaims as he can read me like a book (or fan fic in this case). It was all over.... He knows.... The mocking started. He wants to know long how I've been writing. Not long I say. I tell him he can NEVER read them. He wants to. I say no. He says he's going to google it. I say no. He says why not. Because I say no. He says what's your screen name. I say I'm not telling. He wants to know how much I've written. I say I'm not telling. When have you been writing? In my downtime I say. So how many pages? I don't know I say (of course I do). How many words? I don't remember (of course I do - I remember everything about numbers). Can I read it? No!!!
So finally I say, well I did tell you about it the other night. When? I don't know, the other night. You were right lemacd, he didn't remember a thing being half asleep. Now I just keep getting "the look" all day. I don't even have to say anything... I just get the look. Also he's now putting on silly voice and saying "Oh, Maria!! Oh whatever the guy from dragnets name is!! Ohhhhh!!" And making kissing sounds (I swear he never grew up from being 10). It is seriously too much to endure!!!!

oh wow. i don't even know what to say about this except that i'm sorry.
if it helps at all (though how would it help you?) i have a new appreciation and deeper sense of gratitude that my husband knows and is supportive.
good luck. maybe he'll get bored with making fun of you.
you could try the "i do it because it makes me happy. it will only make your life better for me to be happy." line.
because it is very true.

Yes, I'm hoping he'll stop the teasing after a few days. He knows I'll probably cave and let him read stuff - I have no willpower when it comes to him I think the most mocking will come from some of the sexy time stories, so if I let him read something, I'll probably go with "In Love with Him" - most tame out of the lot!! In all honesty, thinking about it, it is a huge weight off my mind now he knows. I don't ever keep secrets from him and it has been REALLY weighing on me that I hadn't told him about it. So all good now (except having to endure the mocking. Yes, all men are just little boys inside who have never grown up. For example, the other night I went out with a friend for a girls night out and he spent the whole time texting me about how he was watching Beavis and Butthead. I rest my case.

So all good now (except having to endure the mocking. This is a positive attitude. He will tone down, eventually. .. I'm so sorry. Ugh men. It's as Lemacd said, he must see that this makes you happy. My husband was mocking in the beginning too. Now there's the occasional "oh you're reading again? What is it this time? " I just tell him what it is and it's fine. He did read the few things I wrote. Just not sure if I would let him read M rated stuff. On the other hand he should know by known how my mind works after almost 14 years.....but then again it's a man.

Yep... That's what he calls him, although I did mention the other day that we have been referring to him as C Plumilicious so he has adopted that terminology now. (And he still hasn't seem TSOM)
oh oh I've let him read a few stories now. There wasn't mocking thankfully, he gave me lots of praise (although he hasn't read any sexy fics yet so we'll wait and see). He's decided to get his own back on me and he's apparently writing a screen play but I have no idea what it is on and when I get to read it)
update time. I just let my guy read what I wrote today for the march prompts and since he hasn't seen the movie, I said oh you probably don't even know who Max is. He said I don't even know who George is (and said it like George not Georg) so I said his name is Georg, not George and he was like are you serious?? What kind of name is that?? He thinks I'm making it up!!

would he watch the movie if you played the drinking game? bravo for letting him read your stories. that is so huge... i did it once. once.
my husband would like me to write something original, not fanfic. not that he doesn't like that i do this, just thinks i should give it a try. i was supposed to take a creative writing class starting last night, but due to lack of interest, it was cancelled. still kinda bummed about it, but whatever. he was more disappointed than me because i think he wants me to take it a bit more seriously. he just doesn't understand that i am pretty seriously about writing fanfic, too.

yeah the drinking game wouldn't work as he doesn't drink (and coke doesn't count) and while I LOVE wine, I (unfortunately) don't get to drink it that often. I think he's quite happy to watch the movie with me but since I've been studying every night for the past few weeks (and more weeks to come) it may have to wait for a while before we'll watch it together (and the 2 minutes I put on last night for him just to prove that Georg's name is Georg and not George that I've misspelled doesn't count).
I'm sorry your writing class got cancelled. That must be very disappointing. Are there any others that you can do? That is so sweet of your husband to be disappointed for you. I'm sure I read you saying once that just keep writing and writing to get better (or something along those lines) so just keep writing.... we are your biggest fans here and we love your stuff!

thank you. there will be classes offered again in the fall, and maybe that is when people think more about taking a class like that. i have two choices of places that offer these kind of classes, so i might try the other and see what happens. it's mostly disappointing because it has been something i've been meaning to do but kept coming up with reasons not to and i finally went for it and it kinda just went... thud. oh well. not the end of the world.
work hard, study hard and then reward yourself with a couples viewing. when you have time. gosh, you are so amazing to do all that you do.

He thinks I'm making it up!! That better than my case: my father thought Georg was called Gaylord (I kid you not). It was only after my aunt mentioned it to him that he finally realised what his name really is. She was the first person I seriously let read my fics, because (get this) she likes fanfiction. Unfortunately, I don't know of anything she's written.

i was out to dinner with a good friend and she knew i was writing so she finally asked and since i trust her i told her. her response was "you write fanfiction?? i read fanfiction!!" that was cool. she's into star trek fiction so i don't think she's pouring through anything i've written but it was still nice to get that reaction instead of blank stare.
