Having had surgery twice this year, I'm thinking about the incredibly powerful drug they give you just before they send you off to the OR, which has a weird effect on me: instead of knocking me out, it makes me very elated and, uh, relaxed. I could easily become addicted to it, I'll tell you. My husband refused to provide a detailed description of my behavior during the minutes between when the drip started and when they wheeled me away, but he said it left him in little doubt of my feelings for him. After 26 years of marriage, that's saying something. And THAT'S the drug I think of for CP.

Sounds like it could have been propofol--the stuff that hooked Michael Jackson. Short-term effects include mild euphoria, hallucinations, and disinhibition.

see? I knew we'd all end up institutionalized together somewhere. And thanks to @utility_singer, I even know the name of my poison.

Actually, I felt like I could have written that article myself.
Yes, Watching or listening to Julie can just about fix anything (well not really, but at least it can make you feel better about it). The other day when I found out that I had lost my job while I'm on maternity leave (stupid budget cuts, even though they got funding based on the work that I did.... Grrrr.... Rant... Throw something against the wall!!!), what did I do? Go home and watch TSOM and spent the next week playing Julie CD's on repeat. I still don't have a job to go back to, but at least I feel better!

I haven't yet figured out how to rendezvouz with CP without cheating on my husband, angering his wife, or getting arrested for stalking. Oh, and I've also read somewhere that in the event of nuclear attack, TSOM is stored for the UK to broadcast to its citizenry to keep them calm and raise morale, or something like that.

Thanks all. Pretty disappointed, but it wasn't going to affect what 2014 was going to be for me (as I'm home looking after my baby boy Jonathan), just a bit of an uncertain future after that. Thinking of a career change so back to university I go... Anyway, it was a miserable day when I found out but I guess jobs come and go and really my family and kids are much more important. Also I think losing a job is nothing compared to what you have gone through this year augiesannie with your illness, so it just puts a things into perspective in guess.

Well, thanks for saying that, although this year, I had to forgive myself for not being able to turn off that snarky little buzz in my brain that didn't stop complaining about little things even in the face of the big things. I've had a tumultuous time in my job, and people kept asking me how I could possibly care given everything else that was going on; but I don't think the brain (or the heart) work that way. And new motherhood can be the WORST - people expecting you to be blissful every minute, that's just not realistic. It's great that you have some time to ponder and he will only be little once, so.... I love the name Jonathan. I couldn't use it because it wouldn't work with the last name.

Choosing names is a funny business. Hard to agree on and making sure they fit with last names and easy to spell, no weird nicknames etc. I also have Rebecca (Becky) and Charlotte (hence the pen name charleybec). My husband wouldn't let me use Julie Just by chance though, my wedding anniversary is the same as Julie and Blake's (12th Nov)

I will add here a little saying I saw on a wall in a shop the other day; I was going to post it on the 'You know you've been watching too much TSOM when...' thread, because it reminds me of you-know-who, but perhaps it would be most helpful and appropriate here:
'Happiness most often creeps in through a door you didn't even know was there.'
Here's hoping it does that for you too in 2014...Happy New Year everyone! x

Even though it wasn't quite right, I bought it and brought it home. Each of my girls saw it at a different time, and both said, "but that's not what she says. It should say 'window'." They are doomed.

Nice blog! This "She had that same distant, sexy look in her eye she had in The Sound of Music when she realizes that marrying tight-pants hottie Christopher Plummer could end up being loads more fun than becoming the bride of Christ." was funny!
