Yes I understood that it was a relative but often in the RL story he's referred to as a guardian so I often use that if the matter comes up briefly in my stories. I gave used both. I'm not sure, though, why we make him a farmer... He was likely both, my mother was guardian for her much-younger sisters after their parents died. Guardian is for legalities, so that the adult can make decisions on behalf of the child.
