Since I have gotten the cd's thanks to @charleybec I can't seem to stop listening to them. Love them.
I must say when I hear The Island it seems as if I'm intruding some very private moment. Love that song!

Very glad you ladies are enjoying them. Of course I always say, when it comes to anything JA, what's there not to enjoy?

I must confess I like her voice in her later years more.

The early 90's period I think is the best for Julie's voice. It had deepened slightly, mellowed and was more rich. It was just the period before it got destroyed by her return to Broadway and she strained it too much.
The 4 albums from this period are: Broadway: the music of Richard Rogers, Broadway: the words or Alan jay Lerner, putting it together and the King and I. All totally brilliant.
Love Julie was from the 80's and Love me tender, while released in 1983 was recorded in 1979 from memory and Victor/Victoria was 1982. Again a slightly more mellowed and richer voice. I also love her singing in SOB (only 2 songs) and 10 (2 songs again) and these we're in the late 70's.

Does anyone know if Julie ever recorded the song "Simple Gifts"? I want to say I saw that she had once upon a time but now I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated.

"Simple Gifts" is definitely NOT on any Julie albums released (I have them all). I don't know the song. How old is it? There is a vast majority of songs that Julie performed on "The Julie Andrews Hour" that never made it into any studio recorded album so if she has ever sung it, it might be then. As "The Julie Andrews Hour" has never been released on DVD, the best that you can do is hunt down clips on YouTube.

Thank you! I went on a "Julie Blitz" last summer where I devoted every free minute to all things Julie so, if she ever did record it, I saw it then. I'll have to undertake another youtube search (oh, darn). :-) "Simple Gifts" is a very old and, imo, very beautiful song that I've usually experienced as a hymn. www.youtube.com/watch?v=baNueuDCue0en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Gifts

Besides the obvious I have lots of Julie Albums. My favorites...
Love, Julie - I was really into that album for a while and later went purchased it on vinyl! I'm glad that her husband urged her to release it. Little Bit of Broadway The Best of Julie Andrews Broadway: The Music of Richard Rodgers - She really gave her all on this one, possibly thinking that this would be her last studio album. She really belts it out. I love her version of Edelweiss on here and The Sound of Music. Don't Go in the Lion's Cage Tonight - I don't think this was ever released on cd. Which is sad because it is such a wonderful album! And the album artwork is really awesome! It's a bit of a different album what she usually released. You can certainly tell she had a boat load of fun making this album.

The only one not even released on CD was Love Me Tender but I have a copy on cassette and a digital copy as well.

Have you guys listened to the two She Loves Me songs Julie recorded when she was being considered for a movie version of it? Maybe you have and I've been under a rock this whole time, who knows... The videos I linked say it was a single released in the UK, but I've never even seen any album artwork, or anything for the recordings, for that matter, except these two videos a nice person uploaded to youtube: Dear FriendA genderbent version of She Loves Me

I haven't heard either of those before so I'm so excited! Thanks for sharing! (Yeah I've never heard of them being released either so don't feel bad - I must be under that same rock as you)
