Ok I've decided that Friedrich has some incredibly goofy moments.
since I have watched so long, farewell about 30+ times in the past week (ok, looking of M and G adoring gazes), I happened to notice a few things about Friedrich.
when the children start to sing on the top of the stairs, Friedrich is looking over to where Maria is standing, looking really insure, then when the song gets to "up in the nursery" (I think that's the line anyway), he gets a really goofy look on his face, does this funny smile (like oh now I remember what to do) then he looks straight ahead for the next part of the song before to cuckoo part.
then later, when he does his little spin just as Marta is going off, he kind of trips over the rug on the floor (or just sort of gets his foot caught up on it as he turns).
a little bit goofy?

i'd have to watch it to know what you're talking about. but i totally buy that fred is goofy. a bit of an awkward age for a boy. i thought his drape outfit was quite unfortunate and when he is stretched out listening to maria start at the very beginning, i just think... oh, good thing there is no camera phones and facebook for that lad.
and the strawberries turning into blueberries because it was so cold... amiright?
but he's a doll. wanna hug 'im and squeeze 'im and call him my squishy.

Mr squishy! Love it so much! I'm totally laughing right now.
I think I need to find other goofy Fred moments (like that silly grin he does when Maria returns to the villa and just find out that G and E are going to be married and she is devastated and all he does is stand there with the goofy grin) so silly!

When he's staring at her during the puppet show. Very goofy. I think his age, and his massive crush on Julie, were both very obvious and very cute throughout the movie. Isn't there a fic where he and G discuss the attractiveness of the sweet governess? I can't recall the name, but it is one of the more recent escape ones. It's a cute little conversation.

In one of the dvd special features, he says that his father was watching that SLF take off camera. But agree with all the above anyway!!!

I was never a fan of the boy. Especially his horrible lie about blue strawberries. I remember I made a photoshop with him as a blue strawberry once.

I was thinking about the progression of Friedrich today. He's impossible to his governesses and the frog deliverer in the beginning (so, very childish). He's smiley and taken with how awesome Maria is in the middle. This screencap is at the festival practice towards the end. Look at the look he is giving Zeller! He has picked up on the politics of the time even if Liesl hasn't. Then the "we can do it without help, father", which I always thought was a little silly of a line, but it makes the point that he is becoming more grown up. I think having his father involved in his life is helping this boy become a man, just as Maria predicted.. Attachments:
