I just read that Julie was considered to voice "Mrs. Potts" in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" but turned it down. I've often wondered if she was ever considered for that role and, apparently, she was! This makes me so happy although I do love me some Angela Landsbury.

One fact I know is they were considering Angela Langsbury for Mary Poppins. Well, look who got that role...
Interestingly, I know Julie didn't make another Disney film after Mary Poppins until Princess Diaries

Now I'm just going on memory here so I could be wrong with the details but with Disney wanting to re-capture the success of Mary Poppins, they had several projects that tried and didn't quite work but they got some of the cast back. So there was "chitty chitty bang bang" with dick van dyke then "bed knobs and broomsticks" with David Tomlinson. I think I may have read somewhere about Julie was asked and declined "bed knobs and broomsticks" which of course Angela Lansbury did.

was 'chitty chitty bang bang' disney? we love that movie but the children catcher guy freaks my kids out. kinda freaks me out, too. almost too freaked out for disney.
aaaand now i'll be singing that infernal song all day...

No, it was made my Warfield Productions, and distributed by United Artists. Much of the team from Mary Poppins was involved in it, though, hence the confusion. It is certainly in the Disney mold of their live action films at that time.

For those of you who have seen the second "Princess Diaries" movie...during the scene where Mia and Clarisse are looking at the Renaldi paintings...does King Rupert remind anyone else of one Mr. Christopher Plummer? Or is just me? :-)

I was watching this afternoon. Rupert has always looked familiar to me and I re-round twice to see if I was thinking of Chris. Its the hair, with the grey at the temples, and the facial structure and look that made me think of Christopher Plummer. He looks very "Captain Von Trapp." I've listened to the commentary with Julie and Garry Marshall but it was so long ago I can't remember if they speak to Rupert's model/inspiration. There were other people home so I couldn't do a proper inspection. :-)
I want to say that Garry intimated that the painting of Julie as "young Clarisse" was inspired by how Julie looked during "TSOM" days.
