I tend to pull a lot of inspiration when I write TSOM fanfic from Julie herself, across her broad range of characters and just her as a human being. Sometimes I see photos that boggle my mind. Like this one. First, I think, "Holy hell how is she even real," then I think, "Okay, how can I use this to optimal results with Maria & Georg?" These legs, though. Not only do they go on forever but they're in such ridiculously good shape (and by my own personal experience, they still are).

I'm pretty sure Georg would know exactly what to do with those legs ;-)

Exactly!! That's why I can't help myself. Between her nose and her legs, I am such a goner in the fanfic realm. I HAVE to use it, and it invariably ends up being all about sexytimes.
I was at the first and last of her original Gift of Music concert tours in 2008, and she managed to kick her skirts to the skies in the first one during There is Nothing Like a Dame from so much nervous energy. Fitting. *smirk* The guy a few seats down was like, "WHOA, she's still got great legs!" Ayup. Laughed a long time after that one.

I saw these before and I thought they are appropriate for this thread. Julie's legs are awesome.

To quote our Baroness, "My Dear, is there anything you can't do?"
For me, what makes Julie so stunning is that she's not just beautiful, but that she's truly beautiful in the sense that she obviously takes care of herself. You can clearly see how healthy she is. It is, in my opinion, part of her glow.
And she's a drop-dead sexy woman who is drop-dead sexy from being a woman. Take note, Hollywood of Today. She doesn't have to have her bits on display. Even with her legs visible in the pictures cass and charleybec posted. She's still covered. She emphasizes her curves through her gorgeous wardrobe, rather than her lack of clothing. She's classy. And much sexier than any ten "starlets" you could line up in front of me.

I love Julie's self-satisfied "What are you looking at? I'm just being awesome" vibe she's got going on in @charleybec's photos. That probably stands out to me more than anything else. Confidence is sexy! This, this, a thousand times this forever and always. Julie's beauty is not the in-your-face sort that invariably fades with time; it stunning in its subtly, and comes so much from everything she is as a person, from her work ethic, to her principles, to her insistence on being active always, whether mentally, physically, professionally. That, and she's literally just a beautiful, real human being. Never have I doubted her genuine nature, even though her propensity for being tight-lipped or deferential has certainly earned her a somewhat inaccurate representation of merely being nothing more than a manipulated image in the spotlight. Honestly, less is more, and she's practically a living example of that. She also embraces what it is to be a woman in a way that is so lost on today's society, I agree. She takes an enormous amount of pride in it, and has been very open about that, even coming around to some underhanded, clever jibes at what society seems to think being a woman should be about. Julie's a special sort -- she's all for feminism, but she's for a feminism that doesn't resort to extremes or cheap tricks. Her idea of feminism is simply to be true to oneself. It's a pity more people don't realize the truth in this. Re: her as a dancer, JULIE overlooks herself as a dancer. It drives me insane. The woman can match Gene Kelly step-for-step and she thinks she's no dancer. Not just anyone can do that, darling! Excluding Gene Kelly, anyone who can execute ballet flawlessly has my utmost respect. Oh, Julie. Ever so humble and modest. Sometimes to a fault. But that's why I love her. I love it that her kids say she's most like Maria when it comes down to it. It's so true. Refracting light through a diamond for each of them would reveal basically the same essence amongst the differences and flaws.

There's something so attractive and appealing about a woman who just goes and does it, without heeding too much about the chat and negativity. And when they are as knockout as Julie is at everything she does, she becomes an icon, and subsequently, a star. Great stuff, Julie!

I love Julie dancing in "The Saga of Jenny" in Star! and you're right cass about Julie's awesome ability to keep up with some of the all time greats like Gene Kelly. Her many talents are so showcased in The Julie Andrews Hour. It was such a shame they only did 1 season of it, but thank goodness for things like YouTube so we can still enjoy it! And just speaking of Julie's sexiness, it is amazing that in a role like Victor/Victoria that she can play that masculine role, yet still be really, really sexy. I mean, what a woman! And her down-to-earth nature, when we met last year, she was so nice and genuine, not fake at all (and even laughed at my story about how I'd not been allowed to fly across the other side of the globe when I was 17 to see her in Victor/Victoria on Broadway). I have to admit, I was a little gushy over her as I was totally start-struck, but she was just as nice as you would imagine her to be. Oh sigh... what a great moment!

Such good stuff here. I will quote my daughter who, upon returning home from the author chat last spring, turned to me as we were walking into the house and said, "Mom, that was awesome. She's just so real!" That's high praise, particularly from a 13 year old!

I rather like this photo of Julie and Saul Chaplin, practising songs from ?Star. It must have been the same practising for TSOM, as Saul was producer and musical director for that, too.

Thanks! I was listening to Julie's Christmas albums and felt like I needed to spruce her up a little.

Oh you just go to profile then edit profile and you can upload your own avatar photo. There are so many photos to choose from so I'm sure you won't double up with anyone. But I'd love to see you have a avatar. I'm just a visual person. I'm always taking photos and asking to see others photos so please, add a photo!

She is practically perfect, and I'm pretty sure there's no one who can argue with that. I saw a tumblr post that said something like everyone on the internet argues about literally everything but all seem to agree that Julie Andrews is AMAZING. Attachments:

I read this in an obituary of Garry Marshall today (Film Director): 'Asked once with whom he had most enjoyed working, Marshall cited Julie Andrews, whom he cast in The Princess Diaries. She was, he noted admiringly, "a lady who can curse with perfect diction."'
