I have a few really fun ideas for story-writing, but I'm curious... as both a high society rat and a naval captain, Georg probably knows how to play plenty of games. What do you think he plays? I'm going for billiards at the moment (while in Paris -- don't think it's something he'd be particularly amused with at home, but maybe the villa does have a billiards room; you tell me), and later I plan to do some rug-pulling with poker (in my story thus far, the older children are huge poker enthusiasts, courtesy of Max, and have already taught Maria to play it, but Georg doesn't know this. Oh, how fun ). I've got it in my head that Maria becomes wildly fascinated by the man he was before the children, and even before marrying, and being in Paris amongst a broader range of people who have a history with him brings it out full force. Yes, they leave their suite. Mostly for her edification as a new baroness, though, not to actually be proper about things and be social.

I have always liked the idea that, with such beautiful lakes so nearby, Georg would have done a lot of sailing at the weekends in his youth. More traditional pastimes for such a man would have been field sports such as shooting (for chamoix in the mountains) and fishing in his lake. Maybe he also played cards - Bridge would have been a more respectable alternative to Poker!

Oh I can see a pretty sexy scene in front of me with Georg teaching Maria to play billiards. I mean, he'll have to have his arm around her, his hand upon hers guiding the billiard stick to hit the ball, his breath on her cheek. Oh course she may be a natural at it (I mean, is there anything she can't do?) but I'm sure she'll play along that she isn't very good just to get some more lessons from him.
Oh yeah... that could be so good.

*cough* My dad was helping his girlfriend refine her technique last night while she played a game of pool against her son. Our billiards setup is in our basement, where the vast majority of my books are also shelved, so I was observing while stockpiling more reading material (totally on purpose, yes, but I did need new books in my room!).
The results were such that I am convinced of the fun and potential and it's not an area I feel should be left "to the other writers out there" anymore. I have seen the awesome in real life and I do occasionally play myself, so it's not foreign territory. I just never thought of it as good writing material beyond the traditional risqué scenario where things get... compromising. Which frankly, isn't to my taste.
I did briefly picture Georg playing croquet and about died. In an alternate universe... But seriously, I see him as a card-playing, horseback-riding type that loves the occasional football game and will play cue sports adeptly when called. Hidden talents and all. And probably anything to do with water.
