This outfit wins the award for making Julie look frumpy! For some reason, when I first saw this photo, I thought she looked like she must be singing the lyric from 'South Pacific', "Gotta wash that man right outta my hair". Now THAT would be a different ending! Hey, girls, how about a story?!

The other reason I wanted to post this photo was because it includes a bit of the painted backdrop that we see behind Julie when she introduces TSOM on the 40th anniversary DVD. It has always puzzled me why they went to the trouble of painting such a huge backdrop of the lake and Pegasus Landing when I could never see it in the finished film.
However, at our group viewing last Sunday, I caught a snippet of it at last -anybody else seen it in the film? I'm curious to know if some of you have spotted it elsewhere!

Here is the scene where you can see the painted backdrop of the lake through the doors. Presumably this part of the film was shot in the US, or this was one of the bits shot in the house where there was no lake, if you know what I mean - many of you will know that The Argument was shot in 2 different locations, G and M saying their lines separately on different days. I can't think of any other shots through the door in the rest of the film, nor of any sort which show the painted backdrop again. It must have cost a fortune to paint!

You know what indigoblue, I'd wondered ages ago whether that backdrop in that scene was the actual 'looking out to pegasus landing' or whether it was a painted backdrop and it was one of those things that instantly went out of my mind as I got caught up in the next bit of the film (as you do - you're right utility_singer, it's hard to concentrate on 'other' things when CP (or JA, mind you) is on screen). Good pickup!

This "frumpy" looks like nothing in comparison to On Golden Pond. Talk about fashion disaster! At least anything Dorothy Jeakins makes has discernible structure and texture to it. Julie's look from OGP... well, I'm inclined to think she just riffed through her closet. In fact, she probably did. Girl wears things well and yet has such horrible taste in clothing. It's exasperatingly hilarious.

This is the other scene where there is a large painted backdrop - you can see the join between the ground and the backdrop about halfway up the photo. I imagine this was also used behind the gazebo in the 16 Going On 17 shots.
