Here's an older one that I absolutely love. There are some fantastic stories wayyy back there. Including some that have unfortunately never been finished. Those ones stress me out; I need to know the rest of the story! ;-;

Ohhhh I realize I worded that kind of badly. I was talking about other stories that aren't finished. I am more than happy with how the one I linked ended, haha

I am more than happy with how the one I linked ended, haha Oh I can think of two stories that I loved that were never finished. "Opening Windows" and "Back to You". I really hope someday those authors would come back and finish them

One of the stories I had in mind was called "All That's Left Behind." The beginning was very sad, but the last update had a bit of a turning point. Imagine my frustration when I realized the latest chapter had been posted on my thirteenth birthday... >.> So, not really holding my breath on that one.

There is one called Bremerhaven that was in a turning point for the better finally in the last update. I'd love to see it continued.

I sent a PM to the author of that story around a month ago and they replied saying they wanted to continue it but needed a new beta reader. So maybe they'll come back soon to finish it?

I've had so many disappointments that I stopped reading anything that isn't finished or being written from you guys. And I think I ran out of stories to read...

I've started reading up on old stories too... ex The accidental governess... (that is sooo good) and other long stories... but yes ONLY the ones that I know is finished... so hate to read a long fic that has never been updated for ages....!!!! I want to read the VERY long fic called "Amour vincint Omnia"... I remember it as being very good (well at the moment I read up on some Dr. Quinn fics...just to get the feel of the characters again... )

Yes!! mie779, "Amour vincit Omnia" is one of my favourites - it is long, but very very worth it. Maria and Georg and their initial struggles once they reach America, Georg going off to fight in the war then a subplot towards the end with Liesl. Love love love it!! And "The Accidental Governess"... wow mquest is just a genius with her brilliant writing (and let's all keep hoping her computer doesn't die again and she comes back for more "Gypsy Travellers" ( mquest... we love you!!!)

I'm in love with Gypsy Travelers too. It's really good, but I do want to ask if we can maybe not use the word gypsy, or at the very least censor it by writing it like g*psy or something? No disrespect to the story, because it's absolutely wonderful, but that term refers to the Romani people and a lot of them consider it an ethnic slur. I know it's not used with bad intent, but that doesn't erase the history and negative connotations behind it. I don't want to be a downer, but I just wanted to let you guys know.

I think it is a correct usage for the time period, and when referring to the story I don't see any reason to censor. It isn't being used to describe actual people in a current, real situation. Sort of like censoring the word "nigger" from Huckleberry Finn. I can't imagine anyone using it any other time, so I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Ooh, I so wish to read Gypsy Travelers but I never started it to avoid frustration... But right now I have nothing else to read... I might... NO! Should I? On a different note, lemacd, I wish I had your writing talent, at least you can write when your frustrated. I lost count how many times I've reread you stories. My attempts at writing anything have been pitiful...

I remembered another story I really wish had been finished. In fact, I think it's been taken down from FFnet and I can't for the life of me remember the name. But it was an AU in which Maria was still "only the governess" but escaped Austria with the family. Don't remember what happened to Elsa. Anyway, it had promise but seems to be gone forever.

Imagine my frustration when I realized the latest chapter had been posted on my thirteenth birthday... >.> So, not really holding my breath on that one. I was actually helping to co-write that. The friend of mine that was spearheading it lost her gusto big time after we found it blatantly plagiarized on a JA forum. And truth be told, our plans for that story were incredibly sad. I'm not sure our intended ending would have gone over too well.

You can't just tell me that!!!!! Honestly, I do enjoy sad stories when I'm in the right mood. Really sucks that someone was plagiarizing you guys though. People make me sick. Back when I was into Castle fanfic, I found one that was completely copy/pasted from a fic for a different show that was on an independent fansite, and they had just changed all the names. They didn't even try to make it fit in-universe. Luckily I just so happened to be the one other person who read fic for both shows...

Sorry!! Haha. Actually, I went back and read what was written already. I may be able to persuade the main author to finish it off if I take full charge and do all/most of the writing. I might still have my notebooks from planning that particular story. I'll keep you posted!
As for the plagiarizing... you know, the thing is, the Internet is a massive place. It should not be so easy to find plagiarized work. But I have found my personal writing plagiarized not once, but three times. And one of those times was Harmony. I was livid for weeks. It would not have been so bad had the culprit not literally done a copy/paste job and replaced M&G's names with -- get this -- Judy Garland and Vincent Minnelli. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I was not flattered, and most certainly not amused.

This thread was a good reminder of the many stories I used to read time and time again until ... I got frustrated and started writing my own, and then I met the rest of you, and the rest is history. I found some great reminders in your suggestions above. My favorite stories were by this author www.fanfiction.net/u/1427115/Shahrazad63 and I also loved this author, who has taken all of her stuff down - I think she might be the author of the story @sagaofjenny refers to above www.fanfiction.net/u/454513/Becky215
