Charmian Carr was one heck of a pretty girl! Apparently she and Nicolas Hammond had quite a thing when they were a bit older, and he used to accompany her to proms and parties...they must have caused quite a stir together! Attachments:

That's pretty cool. Where did you find that little tidbit?

I'm desperately trying to remember - it was in an interview on TV, maybe about 2 or 3 years ago. I think it may have been around the time the Kids' Scrapbook was published, and the 7 kids were all around a table (at Charmian's house?), talking quite candidly about the film. She may have said it then, or possibly at another interview around then when she was on her own. It may well be on YouTube - if I find it I'll post it.
In fact, thinking about it, it's worth posting the interview with the 7 kids as there were quite a few things they talked about that were new and interesting.

I rather like this photo, especially remembering that Charmian and Nicolas Hammond have remained close friends for years.

Yes, she was absolutely beautiful. No wonder CP flirted with her a bit. I love that she and Nicholas were and still are such good friends. Charmain said TSOM taught her the color of love. Love that.

I don't know whether this is the correct thread for this, but stumbled on this while I was looking for TSOM stuff on amazon.co.uk. £680 for Charmain's "Forever Liesl" book... I had to rub my eyes in disbelief. Lol

There are some crazy prices on Amazon. You have to remember that anyone can list stuff for sale on there. I had a spell a while ago of selling some books and DVD's and things.

Some prices are simply plain ridiculous... even as a die hard TSOM fan, you wouldn't want to pay that amount of money!

People try to sell things on ebay and amazon at ridiculous prices hoping someone will bite and actually pay that for it without knowing it isn't worth that much. I find things at odd prices on there all the time.

I bought my copy of Forever Liesl in St Michael's Basilica in Mondsee. I'm glad I didn't have to pay that amount of money, though I did pay over $200 Australian dollars to complete my Julie movie collection with 'That's Life'

You'll never know what you'll find. I was at a major garage sale a few summers ago and when rummaging through a box of books, I found Mein Kampf translated in English. *awkward silence* Umm yeah...makes you wonder who owned it and why they got it in the first place

But I really doubt they have it. We do have Mein Kampf *very long awkward silence* as my grandfather was cleaning somebody's house yeeaaars ago who had died and stumbled on it and instead of throwing it away, he kept it. My grandmother then stumbled on it and hid it somewhere where nobody could find it. Now when my sister had to read a forbidden book this year for school (what kind of school is she going to?! Lol) she chose Mein Kampf (I think), that was the plan at least...I don't know if she eventually chose that one. Maybe my parents and grandmother didn't really allow it (my grandfather had passed away last october) What puzzles me is the fact that they kept it and never threw it away or burnt it. And just to be clear, we're no Nazi sympathisers haha I do hate Herr Zeller and Rolf.

There are many legitimate reasons someone would own a copy of Mein Kampf----historical researchers or simply a history buff or a book collector. As another example, there are people who collect 'slave memorabilia'---Aunt Jemima/Mammy figures (often cookie jars), antique lawn jockeys, etc. Doesn't mean they are racist (there's a prominent black celebrity I can't recall who collects) but that they find the pieces interesting for one reason or another.

My father fought in the war, flying Spitfires, and saw active service. He bought an English copy of Mein Kampf so he could understand what was going on in Hitler's mind to cause all that horror, because he couldn't get his head round it otherwise. He gave it to my brother in about 1970 when he was studying WW2 for his public exams, so there are lots of reasons to have one.

@utility_singer true! Still... I bet it's frowned upon when you would casually have it lying around in the house or have it on display at home.
I haven't read it myself, only quickly flicked through it, but I can imagine it's indeed interesting to understand or somehow TRY to understand his views.

Being a history teacher, it would be useful to read it and know what his basic thoughts were. I'm not sure anyone could ever actually understand what was going on in that man's mind. It's not something I would have just lying around on the coffee table, mind you, but it is of historical value and is good to keep such things around to remind us of the horrors surrounding it.

Exactly, just look at current events. You don't have to look far.
