How did I miss this thread?? Anyways, my favourite outfits in no particular order (with pictures, because they make everything more effective!): - Liesl's Sixteen Going on Seventeen dress-I love the design, especially the flowy skirt, the sleeves, and the colour! - Maria's Edelweiss/Something Good dress-beautiful colour, pattern, and design. And the sash around the waist. I have always loved this dress since I was a kid not only because of its appearance but the circumstance that she was in when she wore it, that is, the gorgeously glorious gazebo scene!! - Maria's return dress (the aqua green dress that belonged to the new postulant)-I really love the colour and how it complements her hair colour. It fits her very nicely along with the belt. - Elsa's mauve dress-much like Liesl's dress, I like the colour and design - Georg's traveling outfit+the hat-as skittlesmaltesers accurately described, "THE WAY HE WEARS IT like TILTED SIDEWAYS SLIGHTLY IT MAKES HIM LOOK SO ROGUE-ISH AND MAKES ME MELT IN A PUDDLE OF TEARS". I need to have this quote engraved somewhere.

sorry to go off topic here. we all know that CP refused to carry Kym in that last scene, so presumably that's some little Austrian standin there. BUT look at his hands. Stop and think about how you carry someone piggyback. You don't just grasp their ankles. You usually grip them firmly under the thighs. It almost looks like he's carrying a doll with realistic arms and legs but no body.

Yeah, I see that. It is kind of an odd way to carry someone piggyback style. I think it would also make the little one cling on tighter as well because they definitely wouldn't feel as stable that way. I have a feeling he didn't have much experience with carrying a child on his back.

I'm sure he had little or none. But by making the little one hold on tighter, would it place the bulk of their weight on his shoulder, rather than his back? He was bedridden for a week or more with a back injury, which was another reason he wanted Kym's much lighter double, and may have been more comfortable for him that way.
Hmmm.

Carrying a child like that would have throttled him!

Not sure whether this has been posted before, but I saw this today and thought it was hilarious, especially the captions under the photos 15 iconic costumes from TSOM

Delicious! Also worth reading are the few comments to the post. "You missed the Captain in his naval uniform. Serious man candy" HA!

I read that about the Laendlar dress and thought...I am sure there is a story out there about this happening--or someone should write it!

Although I loved Elsa's "I'm over here!" I have to give first place to "I can't put my gloves on, because then you would all faint" in lemacd's honor. Thanks @charleybec!

Hmmm... Captain Von Trapp sheets. Why have I not found these? because Maria made pajamas out of them. Captain vT pajamas. even better.

LOL! On the subject of costumes, I have just realised that the reason the baroness was dressed in that drab purple/grey dress all the time she was engaged to the Captain was a deliberate attempt to make her look unattractive, especially when Maria returned from the Abbey in a (relatively) more vivid green and flattering dress. That purple dress of the baroness' was such a contrast to all her others where she could have been described as much more like a peacock. Thereafter Maria became more peacock - like, (although Elsa did have one further stab at being the femme fatale in her twinkly little red number on the balcony).

I also think that the particular colour of her dress that was chosen just doesn't resonate well with the colours in the background ('clashes' is too strong a word). The overall effect makes her look like she just doesn't fit well in the scene, which then has a negative effect on how you feel about her.

I think it was also an attempt to show that the 'mother' role doesn't suit her very well. That lavender day dress is definitely more of a 'mom' dress of the time.
