Came across some funny videos taken by fans during the singalong at the Hollywood Bowl. Looks like so much fun, I wish I was there!! https://instagram.com/p/4cY8yzhGd- You won't be able to see the movie that well in this video, but it's the audio that matters the most If you can find any more funny singalong videos, please share!

We had them when I went to the singalong in my hometown nearly 15 years ago. Lol I remember the warnings on the label--do not release in front of eyes (or something to that extent). I was too scared to use it (I was a kid then), so I opted out on it during the kiss scene.

oh god why can't people not just shut up when seeing that scene... when I saw the stage production this weekend (in denmark) there were a few cat calls and wolf whistles when M&G kissed.... My only thought was "oh SHUT the *beeep* up and let me was some romance here.... "

I'd rather just have a quiet moment to indulge in the romance of the moment.

Hearing this video of the film (and not seeing it well) has underlined how utterly dreamy his voice is - something I have always been aware of, but this makes me want to get horizontal (for all sorts of reasons). In fairness, Julie's speaking voice is also lovely, but it doesn't have the same effect, y'know?!

That voice and those eyes, I could so easily get lost in. Yes, very dreamy.

Ok, you can pick on me for being the minority opinion here, but I found it funny how everyone reacted in those videos. The singalongs, in my opinion, are a social gathering for this sensational cult following. Much like a sports game, you can show all your support and enthusiasm in the loudest or flashiest way possible. If I was at home, then of course, I would want to watch it in peace and quiet to indulge in the romance of the movie. I would throw any hecklers out of the room in that case (a.k.a. my brother ). And if I was watching a live stage production, then yes, I would want to watch the show in peace. When I saw it in Stratford, there were some people hollering and making cat calls in the distance during the kiss scene which was extremely annoying! Thankfully, they were far off in the distance, so it wasn't that loud. However, there was an elder couple sitting beside me chit chatting throughout most of the performance at NORMAL VOLUME. The husband was saying stuff like, "The girl who plays Maria...I think she's American, right?" Seriously, I don't need a commentary during a live production! I shushed them a couple of times but I don't think they heard me because they kept talking. A few people in front of them turned around and gave them a dirty look but I don't think they saw them as it was dark in the theatre.

THIS.
I keep thinking I should grab my headphones and get his audio book, and listen while I'm working around the house. But I don't think I'd get anything done.

bluesatinsashes said: I agree with you! I know I've said it before but in my city when they do the Sing Along you know what your in for! I do not go to enjoy the movie in peace and quiet because I am so not going to get that. But I like to go and enjoy watching everyone else have a great time celebrating how much we love the movie--because frankly you can't hear it most of the time anyway over the cat calls and the cheers and the guy behind you who knows all the words to the Lonely Goatherd and never sings a one of them on key! And while I could live without hissing at poor Elsa every single time I do enjoy hissing at Rolfe and the Nazis. And while I love me some gazebo scene and the poppers are a bit much its really fun to hear all the whoo hoos and shouted "Just kiss her Captain's" that make whole audiences full of strangers cheer for the same thing. Its nice. Its fun. And one of the few times you can sing Sixteen Going on Seventeen in public and not get a wierd looks!

I had writer's block yesterday while typing this so it was hard to spill out everything that was on my mind. I would also say that the singalongs are a form of religious gathering...like everyone getting together at a place of worship for prayer...did I go too far on that?!

I went to my very first singalong at the Adelaide Festival Theatre in July. Massive sell out crowd of 1300 people (which is huge for Adelaide). I seriously had the biggest blast ever. It was marvellous fun and just the best night. I went on my own and ended up jammed in between two elderly couples. Even the elderly gents were singing along. When one middle-age woman admitted that she had never seen the film before, so she copped so much flack from the host lmao.
Most of all, I loved seeing the young kids, the next generation getting into it. They were all dressed up and posing on the stage. It really was awesome. The hissing of the Baroness became tedious, mainly because I adore Eleanor Parker and it became annoying after about the second time. Was laughing at the drunk Gretl sitting in front of me alongside about six Captain von Trapps dressed in tails. During the graveyard scene when the Captain takes the gun off Rolf, about two poppers went off which had everyone in fits of laughter.
But what was all sorts of awesomeness were the number of wolf whistles when the Captain slid those white gloves on. Took a good five minutes for around 80% of the auditorium to settle down.
A brilliant night and I cannot wait to do it again. Hopefully next year. There is something just so wonderful about watching a classic with people who enjoy it as much as you and appreciate the nuances.

There is something just so wonderful about watching a classic with people who enjoy it as much as you and appreciate the nuances. Glad you had a great experience! I went to the singalong when in 2001. It was my first time watching a movie from an older movie theatre, the ones with only one screen. Until then, the only movie theatres that I knew of were the multiplexes. I don't remember a whole lot but I remember people making smooching sounds as well as "Mwah!" in the minutes before the Captain kissed Maria. I also remembered the props: the two cards that you had to show during "Maria" (I never knew which side of the card to show during that song), the plastic edelweiss, the party popper, the party invitation, and the piece of "curtain" (the only item that I still have!). My costume was pretty lame: I wore a t-shirt with the word "Ti" taped on as well as a toy tea cup, jam jar, and bread taped on. I think it was my mom's idea. If it were to return to my city, I would dress in Maria's blue gazebo dress or Liesl's Sixteen Going on Seventeen Dress. Not very original, but anyhow...

Oh, yes the props. Those cards were really confusing. I did keep my edelweiss though. And then it broke and I had to throw it out
