In one of the supplementary clips in the TSOM DVD, Nicholas Hammond said something like "The older you get, the better Chris gets". And Heather Menzies says "I was too young to have a crush on him but now I see him, Oh my God.."..So I was wondering how old you were when you realized G was so hot in the movie..I first watched the movie when I was 12 and that time I though he was kind of dashing but that was all.. In my case, it wasn't actually until early this year when I watched it again

I had a crush on him early on. I can say indefinitely that he was my first crush. I think I was probably somewhere around the age of 12 or 13, but I had been watching the movie ever since I can remember. I have heard some girls say they noticed Rolf first, but I skipped over him completely and went straight to the Captain. The older I have gotten the more I appreciate his good looks though. It's kind of strange to think that I am now past the age he was when he made the movie. He really was so handsome in this movie and he still is one fine looking gentleman.

I agree with Nick---it is as you get older that you pick up on all of the subtleties that Chris used to make the Captain human. I know he's softened on the movie, I wish he'd soften on his performance. He.was.brilliant.
Anyway, I think it was probably in my teens, around the time I did TSOM myself. I certainly thought he was handsome, but I probably still thought he was a bit of a jerk in the beginning.
My obsession with Chris started 2 or 3 years ago, and I refer to him as my mid-life crisis. But Fiona remembers me suggesting she watch Madeleine all the time, even though I don't think I realized it was him doing the narration. I just loved listening to him, and it wasn't until later when I put two and two together.

I'm with clarinetjamie, I think I was about 13 or so when I noticed him. In fact, I remember him being one of the first men I noticed as man, if that makes sense. I mean of course I had crushes on boys and all that in school but he was not a boy, and I appreciated the difference. But in the spirit of true and hideously embarrassing confessions I will admit that the other "man" I had a crush on at that time was Dean Cain from that Superman show...but in my defense you could have washed clothes on those abs! So I think I have Chris to thank for saving me from being a total loss in my taste in men during my youth.

Can't really remember when I first thought of CP as HOT... don't think it was until I came into this group of TSOM fanatics... yes in my teenage years I've seen TSOM and think I fell in love with the love story in it self... not so much the persons playing the characters... so at the age of 36... yes I've finally realized just how HOT our captain really is

My other teen crush was David James Elliot from JAG and Bruce Box Lightener from Scarecrow and Mrs King (I watched it in Syndication. I was only 6 the first time it aired). None of them though have ever compared to Captain Von Trapp or have lasted as long.

At risk of repeating myself to those old-timers on this board who have read this before, my viewpoint about Capt von Trapp at different ages is as follows (for our new members):
Age 5 (at first UK showing of TSOM in 1965):'Why do they have to have that nasty man spoiling everything? I can't believe Maria really wants to marry him'
Age 7 (at second UK showing in 1967): 'She must really want to be the children's Mummy, and is prepared to put up with him for that!'
Age 9 (Cinema again):'He IS quite handsome... perhaps that is a good enough reason for her to want to marry him...along with the house and the car..'
Age 14 (on TV, surrounded by my family): Holy S***!! I just hope my parents don't see my eyes out on stalks at this utter sexpot! And it has been total devotion for 4o yrs since then...
As my 2 daughters are now 14 and 16, I am keeping my antennae tweaked to detect any signs of them taking an interest in Mr P! It's about time...

Oh and for the record...I have no recollection of the first time I saw TSOM as my Aunt indoctrinated us all from birth, but I know that as of 9 or 10 I couldn't wait for his scenes with Maria and the crush began. Even with a few more years on him he's damn easy on the eyes (and lots of other body parts approve as well.)

It was imperative to the health and well being of these forums and this thread in particular. And to help show @charleybec what she had been missing all these years. Or I just wanted an excuse to post that pic. You decide. Good luck getting anything else done tonight!

I was fourteen. I came back to it then after my unexplained hiatus and firmly hopped on the M&G bandwagon, and by extension CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER!

I first realized how hot Christopher Plummer is when my mother gave me the TSOM video for my 31st birthday in Dec. 1994. I had first seen the movie when I was four, when it was still out in theaters. Once it began airing on TV every so often, I watched, of course, but the Christopher Plummer bug didn't bite until I actually got the video.

I was 14. I was looking for more songs to put on my iPod so I pulled out TSOM CD from our living room. Most of you probably know what I'm talking about how the soundtrack has a booklet that folds open showing some scenes from the movie. I think it had been 5 years since I saw TSOM so I forgot a lot about it since. It was THIS picture that caught my eye: And my first reaction was, "Wow, he looks handsome! And that's only the side of his face!" Then I watched the movie again that summer and drooled over CP. Sorry not the best quality photo, a bit in a hurry here... On another note, I was watching TSOM on TV this past Christmas (by myself). Then my brother walked into the room during the dinner scene seeing this: And he said, "Oh, right. I forgot that Christopher Plummer looked like that at one point." Ummm, excuse me?? That's how he will always look like!

Haha yes! I saw that live! (Can't believe that was already 3 years ago) So witty of her to say "whoa, I may never be able to do this again". As for CP, she's got the guts to say that!

LOL! He certainly did seem to get a kick out of it! Maybe THAT'S why he's finally learned to appreciate TSOM - so many women tell him he was their first crush from watching him blow that whistle!
