I have not, but it will be on my bucket list. I've always wanted to visit New England in the fall months of the year. Beautiful photos!

Thanks! Just a heads up that it's reaaally cold there. Although it appears to be a sunny clear day in the photos, it was freezing when I was there. It was at least 0°C/32°F.

On my list of things to do. Of course, I'd have to go with a like-minded friend or bymyself, because my family would be unbearable!

It was actually my mom's idea (who is the other TSOM fan in the household) to go to Vermont. My dad, being the driver, had no choice but to go But I think he still liked it in the end! My next mission is to go on a TSOM tour in Salzburg. Like you said, I would have to go with a friend who is equally crazy over TSOM as I am. Most of my friends have no idea about musicals let alone my obsession with TSOM.

Just a thought, and not very probable, but how cool would it be if we all went to Salzburg and took the tour at the same time?

I have too many friends and acquaintances who already have done these things. My roommate has been to the lodge as well as Salzburg, since she used to live not too far from it (though she hasn't done the tour). And I can't tell you how many people have told me they've been on the tour. So jealous. Just a thought, and not very probable, but how cool would it be if we all went to Salzburg and took the tour at the same time? I don't think the city could handle all of us at once

Most of my friends have no idea about musicals let alone my obsession with TSOM. My husband suggested a trip for us, to celebrate our 50th birthdays next June. He offered England, Ireland, Scotland, Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda. I said, "No Salzburg?" He told me it was too long a flight and that I wouldn't like the tours because they aren't in-depth enough. I thought it was sweet he at least considered it.

Tours for people of our level don't exist. I actually seriously want to try and create one that does. If that ever happens you're all invited.

I was thinking of all the havoc we could create. We could take over the tour and run it ourselves, lol.

Haha, you guys are funny. Maybe we should book a private tour--forum members only!
Or better yet, we should all go on a mission to Fox Studios Archives to search for deleted scenes from the movie!

I spent a big part of this summer in Vermont, nearby, though I didn't get there. It would be a blast to go there or anywhere with my TSOM friends! thebeestings you crack me up!

Haha a little late to this but just was looking for stuff about this lodge actually and came across this thread (: I would love to go there! Love those pics! It looks like the perfect getaway! Lol, that would be absolutely hilarious if we had our own SOM tour...although I'm not sure how everyone else would react to all the likely Georg innuendos and jokes....

Thanks bloghey131313 for digging this thread up! Great pictures indeed and Cara sounds lovely. I'm now imagining all of us on our OWN tour in Salzburg. Oh all the sass and all the Georg innuendos indeed. I want to go so badly now... this needs to happen. I'm also in for the mission to go to Fox Studios Archives and demand deleted scenes and outtakes. You got me all excited here.

I was supposed to go there in the first week of March, an assignment to write a skiing story from New England would have taken me there... had I not had the first skiing accident of my life a couple of weeks before. Grrr. So hopefully I'll go to the lodge next winter...

Hey, when I think about it, I bet Fox Studios will CHARGE us big bucks to gain access to those precious deleted scenes, knowing how mega successful the movie was! *shakes angry fist at studio* I was supposed to go there in the first week of March, an assignment to write a skiing story from New England would have taken me there... had I not had the first skiing accident of my life a couple of weeks before. Resurrecting this thread after watching a Youtube clip that Indigo posted over in the 10th Anniversary thread that showed both locations in Austria and the lodge in Vermont. The hostess of the video likened people's reaction to these places to a religious pilgrimage.
I was wondering if any of you have visited the lodge in Vermont or taken TSOM tour in Salzburg. Why did you decide to do it? What was the vibe while you were there? Would you do it again? Do you have any insider info you learned about the movie or the family? Sadly, I have not been to either location.

reverendcaptain I took the TSOM tour in Salzburg. It was very lighthearted and fun - it helps if you are willing to sing along and otherwise proudly exhibit your fandom (fan-ness?) A lot of time is chewed up driving to Monsee to see the church (which is worth it). And it didn't go everywhere - I was staying at the hotel that became the back of the villa, but both properties are private which makes it hard to visit and see the lake. Also I went to the Abbey gates by myself. Plus I was there in December when Mirabell gardens are closed so when we went there, I could see the steps but not run up and down them. I imagine the summer would be more satisfying but also more crowded. I haven't been to the lodge but I've talked to a lot of people who have. I think it's more appealing to people who are interested in the IRL von Trapps. Me, I'm all about the movie.

Cool, augiesannie! I am also all about the movie. Actually, the more I read about the real life family, the less I am enchanted with them. The perfection of the movie family (and scenery and songs and costumes and...) is what does it for me. On to Salzburg! What an amazing trip it must have been. I would be so awesome to be with a group of people who are all similarly obsessed with this movie (not unlike coming on this board Do the sites look the same as they did in 1965? I remember one of the kids (Friedrich?) saying that it looked the same to him in one of the YouTube links in the 10th anniversary thread, though it is probably hard to recall exactly what things looked like when you were 14. It's a bummer that they don't let people out on the pegasus landing. That would be a highlight. So amazing that you stayed "in the villa" though! Did your room face the lake?
